I've worked with local craigslist movers before too. moved all the small stuff myself and called them in for the last few big/heavy/PITA items.
the last time I moved, I borrowed my moms minivan and made several trips with all the small stuff. rented a Uhaul for the big stuff and my dad helped me with that, all in one trip. I think I have too much E36 M3.
i'm in the process of moving right now... we get the keys to the new place on Wed and have to be out by close of biz on sat... worst part is we're on the 3rd floor...
it's a combined move with my in-laws and between the bad back my wife and mo-in-law have only my father-in-law and I can move stuff... so we hired movers... i'll be moving some of the smaller things myself (electronics and such). But the furntiure is all them :)... stil going to be a crazy move :-/
Helping my girlfriend move this coming weekend. Shes doing a one day 10 foot uhaul truck rental for $20 plus filling it up with gas.
If you need a hand moving big stuff I could help out the 22nd or 23rd. Or the 30th. LMK I'm local.
yup be packed... we're moving wed as mentioned above... i've got a few things not packed yet but 95% of everything is sitting in my dining room in boxes ready to be moved... I helped a friend and his mom move once (he was still in HS, I'd just graduated)... I used my '85 tercel and my dads 4x8 utility trailer... I don't think they had a single thing packed up and the move took all freaking day for the few things they had

There are outfits like PODS which will rent you a container (various sizes), you pack it and they deliver to your new location. Worth looking into.

This is kind of an easy button. We rented one for a month when we moved. Spend a couple of weeks packing it on one end and a couple of weeks unpacking it on the other end. All in, including moving it from one house to the other was about $400.
Why would you put a new hitch on an old Durango?
Looks like Archies auto recyclers is about 16 miles from you on car-part.com and they have a hitch for a 2000 Durango for $45. Not your year, look yourself. I haven't bought a new hitch for anything not new in years.
We got our hitch of Craigslist for $50 I think. That's the way to go.

Not so easy if some of your furniture are antiques passed down through family...
I rented a 26' box truck just to move my tools from my g/f's garage to mine (33 miles). While that was mostly because I needed a lift-gate to load my scissor lift and tool chest, I was amazed at how little room was left in the truck when I was done. Big, shop-type tools are a bitch to pack.
I rented the smaller of the $29.95 UHaul box trucks to move my everything from my garage to the small shop/storage place I'll be using until I have a real garage again and was also shocked at how quickly it filled up. I had intended to also swing by the storage unit that has my household stuff in it and transfer the small amound of parts I'd shuttled to there earlier (mostly seats & some heads) but just didn't have the room left after just the garage stuff...
ok so we moved today... our apt was on the 3rd floor... it took my father-in-law and I 2 days to move everything into that apt...
we had movers move us and my in-laws into the new place about 15 min away... total time for them to get everything into the truck and back out was about 5 1/2 hrs... those guys are beasts and worth every penny

I moved my entire office in less than 2 hrs last April.
Step 1. Borrow box truck from work with lift gate.
Step 2. Have all the stuff in totes, bins, boxes, etc ready to roll.
Step 3. Bribe friends with beer.
Step 4. Bribe certain friend with straight truck with piggyback forklift to move tool boxes with good beer.
Step 5. Move.
I am ready to get out of Milwaukee.
