Escpecially ones with tinkerbell, taz, or that are ribbed for stimulation. Who puts those on and says, yep that an improvement. That is all.

I generally don't like them but I gotta say the ribbed one helps on my sammy for offroading. No trouble gripping the wheel with muddy hands or one-handed, when obstacles threaten to rip the wheel out of your hands, every bit of grip helps.
I rather like the leather wrap on the DeLorean- it has a rather skinny steering wheel so the thickness of the wrap makes it easier to grip as well as the leather not being as slick as the worn steering wheel which again makes it less likely to slip out of my hands.
I've a steering wheel cover on the Neon rallycrosser. When I got it, a large portion of the surface was worn off, exposing the foam beneath. I could have found one in a junkyard, I guess, but the wheel cover was cheaper, and I didn't have to mess with removing a steering wheel with an airbag in it...
The last two cars I bought had them covering perfect steering wheels. If the wheels were badly deteriorated, I could understand it. I also don't like gushy wheels. Give me a hard plastic or wood. No leather, no foam, no wrap, no nothing.
I put decent heavier ones on to thicken up the wheel for better grip.
I find its easier on my hands.
Don't have one for the Miata, my hands hurt a bit after long drives in it.
When I bought my Miata it had an Autozone special that fit so loose you had to grip it tight in order to even turn the wheel. It was actually a safety hazard. It lasted until the first stoplight when I was driving the car home.
Not a fan.

I've been working on a coworker's Kia a few times over the last year. He has one of those covers on it. The first time i went to turn the wheel and just spun the cover on the wheel was a huge OH E36 M3!!!!! moment.
The thing is flat out dangerous.
