That sounds about right to me. Think back....how much fun were cars for you, as a kid, when you COULDN'T drive? Wouldn't the whole hobby be missing a rather important bit if all our mechanical efforts in the garage were for naught?

I know it took me until I was 15 and behind the wheel for the first time before I "got" it. It's been a wonderful downhill slide into motorsports ever since.

I have been completely obsessed with cars since I can remember. I loved looking at them, watching every bit of racing on tv. I had many crates full of hot wheels. I watched motorweek every week since 1985. I remember way back in the day when fifth gear would come on after junkyard wars.

I understand and actually kind of hope that he would not be as completely consumed with cars like I am. It's not a good way to go through life.

Just like everyone else said... my other half doesn't give 2 E36 M3s about cars, but loves Top Gear. Not quite as huge a fan of the US version, but loves the UK version. And Dr. Who. Guess I'm a lucky man lol

I think in this case you are succeeding as a parent; your son called you lame. That's what we should all strive for.

My kids like it (14 and 12).

And yes, it is not a car show. It's a buddy travel show. It's gotten silly and the hosts to some extent have become caricatures of themselves. But it's like hanging around with old friends that sometimes annoy you. Ok, often annoy you. Still fun.

I use Top Gear Uk with my 6 year old daughter as a reason to behave. If she is bad, she is going to have to watch Daddy's car show.

On the other hand, she does like the full episode specials, she will ask to watch those from time to time.

My son is three. His favorite game is "rally car" where we pretend to drive a rally car around the living room. He has historic race car posters over his bed and chooses one every night to dream about.

He has on occasion watched top gear, but I don't think he likes it much. Because Three.

When watching racing he exclaims.. "Whoa Dude, Did you see that Pass" constantly.

I left out the more "difficult" parts of his personality. The kid runs hot or cold. When it's bad.. It's really bad...

I kept trying to watch TG and just don't see the value to spend my time watching it.

I think the only thing I found interesting is the lap time rankings for the guests. I think my favorite was Usain Bolt. Big man is fast in cars too! I watched one episode where the guest referenced something rather significant on the lap that didn't happen in the video. So I assume they combined footage of several laps to pretend it was the fast lap. That took a lot of the fun out of it for me. Haven't watched it since.

My kid doesn't get into racing at all, but from about 3 to about 6 her favorite game was 'airplane'. Which wore both Daddy and kid out... phew.
