I'm sort of a purist when it comes to modifying vintage cars. They're only original once, but if you just can't resist, I'd prefer you say somewhat period appropriate. The last thing I want to see is a nice old cruiser slammed to the ground on glaringly modern oversized wheels.
Then why the hell do I like this so much?!
I mean...god DAMN!
I've seen this look before on '70-ish DeVilles, and I've tried to resist its siren song. I can no longer hold out.
(But it only works on '70-'71 DeVilles for some reason. I'm not straying too far to the dark side of custom sleds.)
So...how does one go about getting a Caddy that low? And how bad does it drive?

Cuz that car has no redeeming value to a car enthusiast to it doesn't hurt to bastardize it.

Air bags or hydraulics would be my guess.
Air bags, drop spindles, and a C-notch for the rear axle.
Get me some powder for my pimp hand.
You have ventured over to the dark side, or are you sleeping with "pimp my ride" playing in the background.?
Half of you might like it because the body is straight, the chrome is straight, and except for the sittin' on the ground, looks like a car in restoration about to be painted.
My bill is in the mail....
I kind of hate you for not having more pics of it.

Caddilacs can get away with it because they are so big that a 20 wheel can look at home under it. The 15's they came with look kinda small on some of them.
Mmmmm, they do look good. I've seen at bunch of them in build threads on los boulevards.
Not to be That Guy, but keep in mind that the big GMs changed significantly from 70 to 71. The 70 CDV (I assume -- would there be a way to tell if it was a Calais at this point?) in the photo was the last of its kind. The 71s were much rounder and looked, if you can imagine such a thing, much bigger.
I have been hankering for a Lincoln Continental much like this one...without whitewalls, and with slightly larger wheels.

Just when I decided I shouldn't get a big old car
I really really like clean low riders. I love them even more when they have moar LS.

Hi, my name is SVreX (Hi SVreX!), and I have to confess that I LOVE the look of big cars slammed low.
I'm not a big fan of glitzy wheels, but land barges look great scraping.
One day I may do it to my El Camino...

I'm not a fan of big (slow) American iron, but the Continental has been on my guilty pleasures list since I first saw the one in The Matrix.
I guess the low riders are running out of Chevy Impalas.
I really like 1960s Cadillacs, but I also hope the whole flat black/slammed on the ground look will go out of style real soon.
late 60's/early 70's Caddies, Buick Rivieras, and 63-67 or so Lincoln Continentals all look absolutely evil when slammed to the ground.
the Lincolns are just a clean design with acres of interior space- and suicide doors in the back..

My son has a '66 Caddy convertible in show condition. In the shop now for a fresh paint job (black and glossy) Nice white interior. 2" drop. Riding around in that you get the rock star feeling and treatment. Love it. Fantastic cruiser.

What's not to like?
Gas mileage will be abominable, but that's never been a real limiting factor for me anyway.
