I had a random brain fart a few days ago where I thought a buick reatta with a drivetrain swap from a cobalt ss and a lower stance with some subtle five spokes would be just fantastic to own.

I mean, I'll admit to being bad, but never before was it FWD BUICK bad.

When someone finds a reatta probably, I don't remember the last time I saw one

Replace the digital display with a Raspberry PI and an LCD interfacing with the Cobalt's CAN BUS.

I look forward to the results of this build thread.

Put the drivetrain in the back seat...fuel cell under the bonnet wink

That's actually pretty dumb. I approve.

This place is bad, but I was diseased long ago.  Of the six running vehicles I own, four have engine swaps.  I just sold a pair of 56 Chevrolets that I have owned since the late 70's.  The main project has a 71 Monte Carlo front clip, done in about 1978, with the steering column from a 510 Datsun and an agricultural U-joint to match up the shaft to the box.  The non-power dual master is from about a 74 Cutlass...and so on.

The other was just a parts car in the 70's but I was looking when I delivered it to the new owner, and realized that it would be huge fun to properly finish the El Camino cut down job from the 60's with sheet metal instead of plywood...

Its not your fault, GRM.

I need to clarify about the six running vehicles- That doesn't include the four race cars, my daughters car, or my decrepit projects.  The six is just my daily drivers, and I live alone.

I’m a fan of FWD coupes. I would lean towards a 3800SC myself. Otherwise, please do it so I can live vicariously through you.

I've been affected too. I bought a 50 year old, slightly rusty, inoperable French car with barely any parts available in North America, and I forget to even see if I fit in the car until after I got it home!

But it is rear engined, 1,108 cubic centimeters, and rear wheel drive! I don't even bother telling my real life friends about my 'car life'.

I second the 3800 SC recommendation. Not sure if I'd put it under the hood for a relatively easy swap, or in the trunk to make it into the next generation Fiero.

Coincidentally, I passed a Reatta parked in front of a house during lunch today.  Didn't look to be in bad shape either (especially for a rust-belt car), so they're still out there.

I have never seen one of these before. Kinda reminds me of the old Toronado Trofeos. Weird.

I have 7 cars right now, 4 have complete or in progress engine swaps and all are or will be turbocharged, none were factory turbocharged engines. One car is not modified in any way and it is for sale.

Few places provide kindred spirits the way this one does.

It's not a bad looking car, although to me it looks like a car that was designed to be a convertible and then they changed their mind at the last minute.  Then after two years, they decided to offer it anyway.

I didn't realize it was only produced for 4 years (88 to 91) with less than 22K built, and only 2437 were convertibles.  Fairly rare car.
