Woke up at 4am hearing occasional sounds which I cannot recall having heard before. It sounds just like Bruce Willis is crawling through my HVAC ducts very, very slowly. No skitter of claws/paws. I had a few mice a couple of weeks ago but I think I got 'em all with the traps/bait. The sounds stopped around 5:30.
Ideas? Recommendations?
Opossum, raccoon? Not sure how they would get it. That might be a good place to start, an entrance.
Expansion / contraction in the house / ducts? Did you go into the attic to deal with the mice? Lean on some things?
It's a closed system, right? No vets to the outside like a clothes dryer, so how's a critter get in there? " Bruce Willis is crawling through my HVAC ducts very, very slowly. No skitter of claws/paws....." Got snakes in Mo?
When you leave for wok in the morning, a homeless midget drops out of the attic and has the place to himself for another 7 hours. Jus' sayin.....
Generally speaking a raccoon or adult possum is going to sound like an elephant if it's walking around up there. Any smaller legged creature & you'd hear it scampering around.
I'm thinking you might have some motherberkeleyin' snakes in your motherberkeleyin' ductwork.
We had a raccoon get into the house, climbed a downspout, pushed the soffit up and crawled into the attic. The chewed its way into the flexible ductwork and had a little highway to run around the attic. There's more but I'll leave it for another time.

FYI if you need to evict raccoons it's really easy to do - just put a strobe light in your attic along with something to play music really loudly & they'll be gone in no time. Apparently they hate raves.
Of course then you need to block off whatever entrance they found/made, but make sure mama didn't leave behind any kits first. She'll take them to one of her other nests, but it'll take 3 or 4 trips depending on how many she has.
