My son asked me what my favorite TV shows were when I was a kid. My answer was kind-of eye-opening:
The A-Team: A bunch of guys driving around in a van
Scooby-Doo: A bunch of kids driving around in a van
Rat-Patrol: Army guys driving around in a Jeep
The Dukes of Hazard: Two guys driving around in an orange car
Knight Rider: A guy driving around in a black car
Speed Buggy: A talking dune buggy
Miami Vice: Cops driving around in a Ferrari
Magnum P.I.: Another guy driving around in a Ferrari
Speed Racer: A guy who drove around in a race car with his brother and a monkey in the trunk
CHiPs: Cops riding around on motorcycles
Taxi: People driving around in Taxis
Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch: A bunch of talking motorcycles
I have the same pattern. I see there are two reasons:
1 - you (and I) are a gear-head.
2 - the workd was cooler and more car-centric in the 70s and 80s.

Hardcastle and McCormick - Judge and convict driving around in a red car.
Don't forget toys.
Hotwheels - cars
Lego - build cars
Transformers - robots that turn into cars
Tonka trucks - cars that drive around the sandbox
And then as I grew older:
Remote control cars
Go karts
Actual cars
Turbo Teen - A cartoon in which a kid would turn into a car if he ate a hot burrito.
Eek the Cat. Talking cat.
Starsky and Hutch: Red with white stripe car
The Fall Guy: brown/tan pick up truck
Back in the day when a vehicle was considered part of the cast.

Back when the vehicle was a better actor than the people in the cast.
(I happened to catch a rerun of the A-Team a few nights ago when scanning through the channels. Hulk Hogan was a guest star on that particular episode, along with a bunch of other pro wrestlers I didn't recognize. It was pretty bad.)
