This is the back page ad on the newest issue of an offroad magazine.  I can't believe the lawyers signed off on this picture.  You know what they say, safety last!

If it can't roll, there's not much chance it can fall.

I would have at least tried to find a flat rock to park it on.

It's a Jeep thing. You obviously don't understand.

At least that thing has enough ground clearance that it won't flatten you if it falls?

As long as the rear wheels are SECURELY chocked, I don't see a problem. That tree stump is probably more stable than any jack stand I have.

The funny thing is that it should have more than enough clearance so that you can do whatever you want underneath without parking it like that. Hell, on the trail jeep I had I needed to let the air out of the tires so the tranny jack could reach the transmission pan.

Gotta be honest, unless the back wheels are in sand or mud I’m not sure I see that this is all that dangerous. Doubly so when you consider that the guy can’t get crushed if it were to fail—any injury would come from the initial impact.

Wood is damn strong. I don’t see that slipping, again, depending on the rear wheels being on relatively solid ground.

I'm not convinced that's wood. Looks like fractured rock

Agreed that this doesn't look overly dangerous as long as the parking brake is locked down and both rears are on solid surfaces. No different than crawling under it parked in your driveway.  It looks like a thousand trailside repairs I've seen.

What do you think is broken? Looks like he's reaching up into the nether regions of heaven-knows with both hands. It reminds me of the big wrench stock photos.

1. It took me awhile to get there, but now that I've seen her left ankle/foot, I can't see anything else. Is it broken? That can't be ok right?

2. What kind of wrench is that dude holding? It looks like the closed head swivels and ratchets, and that sounds like something that I need to own.

Gearwrench makes those. I prefer the locking ones

Wood and stone can be very strong.  Wood and stone you find out in nature - you don't know until it fails.

You're right. The one in the pic looks a bit more "high end" than something likes Gearwrench though. Maybe a Proto?

All those stock photos always show someone using a comically large wrench to work on a car. They never show the real world, where I'm trying to balance a 10mm socket on a 3' long snorkus attached to a 1/4" ratchet, which is held in my left hand because I'm holding the part in place with my right.
