I got these via email. Pretty interesting list to peruse. The link below leads to a multi-page PDF.

That explains why the expensive junkyard will sell me 50k mile examples for $285.

Take the data with a grain of salt. I saw one engine that I really don't belive the volumes that it claims for last year. Plus, it appears that the numbers are engines built in 2010, not actually made in cars (some of the cars were not released until 2011....).

Darned good list, though.

We make VVT sprockets for one of the Ecotec motors. 13,000 a day, everyday, 7 days a week.

You're talking about engines though, not vehicles themselves. Don't forget that GM puts all those 5.3L engines in all their trucks, Chevy and GMC. There are a ton of fleet and commercial vehicles out there that get bought in the masses, pickups, vans, chassis, etc. A lot of them though probably sit in a warehouse waiting to be used.

I'm surprised at the small number of 2.9 4cyl. motors.

Is it me, or are the numbers for BMW M engines really high?

well, yeah.. but 500,000 is a LOT of engines to come out of 2 factories. the 5.3 is today's version of the 350- strong, cheap, and plentiful. thinking i might ditch my plans for an LT1 in my Camaro and get a 5.3 instead.

Mahle prints those up poster sized every year but they come folded to standard 8 1/2x11 size so they fit in a normal mailing envelope. If you use the contact form on their site they might mail you one.

You'll need to log in to post.
