So we bought my kid an ipad mini for Christmas and he's wanting to download games onto it but it won't let him do it unless he uses iTunes which requires a credit card when you set it up. I don't really want to have my credit card info on my kids device. Do I have any options to put games on this device without using itunes ?
Thanks
Dan
Not really - but there are parental controls on spending if you're worried about that. The card info isn't stored on the device itself.
Or you could get an iTunes card and use that info on the mini until it's depleted.(will happen quickly unfortunately)
You still need an iTunes account. That's pretty much impossible to get around - but Apple knows that there are a LOT of kids playing with their stuff, so they are set up for it.
You CAN setup an iTunes account without a credit card, but they make it very difficult. Using the iTunes card works great though.
Also, there are controls with the iPad that allow you to Disable In Game Purchases, which is a good idea. If they don't know the iTunes password, they cannot make any purchases (free or otherwise). I suspect you want to allow free purchases though (many of which have in game purchases BTW).
You probably don't want the kids to make free purchaes either. Let them ask you to down load any games or content. There are a lot of apps that are not appropriate for all ages.
I have 2 young kids who play with our iPad and phones and they never hacked our account yet.
Yup. Just download for them. My boy's 16 and still doesn't know the iTunes account info.
