I think I understand now why people complain about iphones. I made the mistake of updating the software on mine, and now it will no longer open any apps except the ones it came with. I guess thats what I get for buying the cheapest smart phone at the time. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? Unfortunately im stuck with it another year or so.
yeah it seems like each update it just keeps making apps crash and your internet not work fully. I update mine like crazy
At least it boots afterwards. I've attempted to update my iPad 4-5 times with the latest software and EVERY time, it wipes the iPad and I have to start all over again.

I've never had an app refuse to run on my 3GS, which is getting "old" by industry standards at this point. I've updated software every time it recommended I do.
I've never had an issue with any apps or any updates - ever!!

my 3GS and weatherbug don't get along at all, every time i open it, it will load the current conditions and forecast, then crash, then work fine after i reload it.
I tried searching online and i guess the problem that I have is pretty common, I couldnt find a good description of how to fix it though.
lucky some of you haha I have the 8gig 3GS too but some apps don't like it, most work and are fine with all updates
I ditched my iPhone for a DroidX. On day one it bent my old iPhone over and raped it's non-standard data port. The iPhone was powerless to stop it since its berkeleying battery went dead after 15 seconds trying to resist.
I started having trouble with updates and transferring files about a month ago. Lots of error messages and incomplete transfers. Usually a reboot would fix it and I would be fine. It progressively got worse and last week wouldn't recognize the iPhone at all. It turned out to be the USB cable. I swapped it for another one I had laying around and it works fine now.
Odd, the only consistent problem I have with mine is the FaceBook app suddenly doesn't want to upload pics anymore. Updating the app doesn't work, I have to delete it completely and reinstall.
Other than that, iPhone's been great...but I'm syncing with iTunes on a Mac. Windows user's mileage may vary.

coworkers are offering CPR because i just sprayed my monitor and am choking with laughter. thank you, Giant Purple Snorklewacker, thank you.
(yes, i'm sure that's what she said)
The only thing that the iPhone has done for me is make me happy that I bought an HTC Evo instead. Rooted Evo is awesome.
Have you updated the Apps as well?
The apps need to be updated to work with the newer version of the OS. I find that updating the apps beforehand works pretty well. That and resetting the phone.
Also, the Facebook app hasn't worked for uploading photos for quite a while. I just use the e-mail feature and it works just fine (e-mail picture to a Facebook e-mail account that is tied to your account). This isn't a problem with the OS as the Photobucket app works just fine for me. Facebook's app just kinda sucks.
Fiance's 3G iphone is a bit wonky at times, has been since we got it. Mine works fine (though the camera lens is scratched now) We got them at the same time and she treats hers with kid gloves, while mine lives in my pocket in the garage.
Gonna hold out for the 4G network since we have unlimited data with AT&T and I've not had any problems with AT&T so far (plus I get a discount through work) Now, Qwest and Comcast on the other hand, they are permanently on my E36 M3 list, along with Verizon.

Weird. WeatherBug works on my 3GS, has for more than 16 months and still does today. And I usually get 2-3 days out of a battery charge unless it's somewhere where the phone constantly has to search for service, but that's been the same with every phone I've ever owned. Or if I spend several solid hours on the Internet / gaming. If I use it a normal amount for a few calls a day and regular text volume, it will go 4 days. I really don't see that as an issue.
I don't think having an iPhone makes me a better person or anything, but just like Macs, I fail tounderstand the hatred.

It may be a DRM problem and need to be sorta reauthorized with Apple. Try installing a free app from the iTunes store and see if that'll do it. Also make sure iTunes on the computer is properly authorized with Apple.
If that doesn't work, restore.
Another happy customer here. Just sayin not all iPhone's are bad.

Replace DroidX with EVO 4G and I agree completely.
Now I just need to quit being a pansy and root it.
I'm currently using a Net10, pay as you go phone... what are these "apps" about which you speak ?
Pay as you go with Apps for as low as $25 per month.
