In reply to SVreX :
Thank you - fingers crossed.
In reply to Pete Gossett :
Pete, I'm not so sure you're going to stay in the clear of this one. Keep your wits about you and good luck. Best of luck to all our GRM'er in all the places.
In reply to John Welsh :
So far we're not forecast for any rain, and the winds look like we'll probably only see 20-30mph gusts. The winds will be from the northeast, which is actually the less-protected side of our property, but still shouldn't cause any problems. Of course, that could all change over the weekend...
Not the forecast you ever want to see for your house. Boarded up and bugged out, staying in PA until who knows when. Hope we have something to come home to.
You can listen to live scanner audio feeds here:
Florida Police, Fire and EMS Live Scanner Feed
There are phone apps for on the go as well.
Still waiting to see if/when it will turn. Will it land in Tampa or just skirt by?
We're in decent shape over in Ormond Beach: The car is ready to go, the house is prepped, and we're packed. Looks like we're going to ride it out as the forecast keeps getting better for us. We found our other extension cord, too, so if need be we can get some generator power from next door.
We have lots of friends in Tampa and St. Pete. That's the big concern.
Listening to Mike right now: https://www.facebook.com/mikesweatherpage
Heard from Mrs cwh.
They have evacuated the trailer park, and are in a decent place. Still in the path, but safe. Her big concern is if they will have anything to go back to after the storm.
Old work buddy and his wife sold their house in Pa. last month and bought their retirement spread an hour off the Gulf coast, they were set to move in this week. What a housewarming.
Well, now those paths are all going over my house in South GA. Looks like it will be a lot weaker, but still...
My family is there, and I am in SC. Feeling kinda helpless. We've got a few enormous at-risk trees
I felt better when it was hitting me, not them. Hoping it continues to adjust West.
In reply to SVreX :
Glad to her CWH and Mrs. are safe. I'm sure they'll have a place to go post-storm, whether it's their trailer, somewhere else nearby, or all the way to Biloxi if needed.
I hope your family & home make it through ok too!
In reply to Stampie :
Not gonna happen. Wife is way too hard headed.
More likely that if things start to look bad, I will head South into the storm.
We have 2 houses and my shop there, each of which have at least 3 questionable trees big enough to cut the building in half.
In reply to SVreX :
I was going to recommend going back but I figured you already had it planned. :-)
Wind is picking up down here. I just heard from a buddy of mine that he already lost power about 5 miles east of me. I guess its a matter of time until its our turn to lose power.
7:00 update from Mike's Weather Page: The storm is tracking more west than expected. So, when is it going to turn?

It's not going to turn until the strong high pressure center over Washington D.C. gets bumped out of place. Winds in Baltimore today we're still out of the WNW which implies the high pressure center was still just to our west.
John Welsh said:SVreX,
That letter H pretty much right over your house can't be a good feeling!
All the best...
The "2AM Mon" dot is basically right on top of our house. We have boards up, not perfect as all the hardware stores ran out but should stop the large stuff. I have 8 mature oaks on my property, one dead that I was planning to take down. Irma will that for me and probably wipe out my pool cage in the process. We're at 64 ft so no risk of flooding but the wind will be intense. My roof is fairly new and has all the proper hurricane straps. Not sure about the shop.
I've been through plenty of hurricanes being from FL but this one is going to be nasty. We will lose branches and possibly trees. My Hobie will most likely get crushed by a huge jacaranda tree and a couple project cars will probably be junk after this. C'est La Vie. I keep telling myself it's just stuff but I will be sad if some things get ruined. The in-laws are here (they live in flood zone) and they're two cars are in the shop with my car. I'll just be relieved when Monday, day gets here.
Passed a long convoy of military transport trucks and multiple convoys of power company trucks on the way down to NC today. For entirely selfish reasons, I am happy to see the track push as far west as it has, but I have to wonder how many folks on the Gulf Coast of FL got caught with their pants down, thinking they would be spared the worst of the storm.
In any case, I'll be thinking of all you guys down that way. Stay safe!
My whole family evacuated the east coast to come to my place in Clearwater and Irma followed them. Turns out it was a good thing because I had a lot of boots on the ground to get my house prepped. We all ended up leaving yesterday to come back to the East Coast/Jupiter.
I'm not too worried about my house. It's well boarded and in a non-evac non-flood zone. I am a little more worried about my in-laws because they've been extremely stubborn, didn't want to leave town and have a partially OSB boarded home on the water with pretty much no insurance. My canoe/Hobie cat is also in their garage. If I would have known about the shift I would have done a better job of securing it because I can't see their garage door faring too well with the current path.
We will see.
Lots of wind here in Lake Worth. No internet and the cell reception comes and goes.
We are still doing OK, otherwise.
Still have power, cell, and internet. Winds are just barely picking up here. Also have two very wet cats. Apparently they didn't get the memo that id filled the tubs. One made the leap, and chose poorly. The other, not learning from the first one, replicated the stunt in the other tub about 15min later.
