I was excited, hoping they'd bring back the first gen Bronco with more modern amenities. I'm disappointed now, but if I was to buy a new new vehicle it would have to be a Ranger anyway for the bed space. I was just hoping for a proper small SUV, not some overgrown sedan or CUV thing, to be available used in about 10 years for a woods buggy.
But but ranger chassis, don't care, need a bed.
Once they make it into the wild I'm going to have to check them out anyway, but not really excited at all.

Not a smaller Ranger, a small pick up that can sell for sub $20K, it's the Focus/Escape FWD platform.

Towing for the 4 doors should be pretty good, the same chassis Ranger tows over 7k. The 2 door should be at least 3500 I would guess.
I think it's really funny that everyone is complaining about these not being real trucks, or debating the dimensions, or crying about it not being a real SUV (whatever the heck that is.)

The Bronco is based on the Ranger chassis. So it will be very close to the same size, duh. That also means it's got a real frame, IFS and a stick axle rear with some real off road chops. That's as "real" an SUV/Truck as a Wrangler ever was.
The other one is Bronco Sport, based on the Escape chassis so it's a CUV thing that looks like a land rover. It's fine, sure, but it's just another CUV. Whatever.
I suppose it's the acme of foolishness to suggest anyone pay attention to details on the internet.

You're joking right? You expect Ford to spend hundreds of millions putting something that looks identical to the original back in production with a unique chassis, suspension and everything else, while making is stable, comfortable and has all the safety and convenience features that are required by law and customers to sell probably a couple of hundred a year?
If you want an upgraded original car, that's exactly what the aftermarket is for and why Ford (and other OEMs) work with and license the aftermarket.

Slight clarification, There are three models of two vehicles being shown.
One is the four door Bronco built on the Ranger Chassis
Second is the two door Bronco built on a shorter Ranger Chassis
Third is a smaller, unibody 'Bronco Sport' CUV built off the FWD Focus/Escape etc. platform that will be AWD and have real off road ability and go head to head with the Jeep Cherokee.
Not sure why I'm spending so much time defending the efforts of a company that downsized me last year, but I do really like these products.

Kind of understandable when you see folks posting things that are not correct.
I haven't worked in the auto industry for 12 years, but I still "defend" it a lot because I understand the constraints car companies work under better than people who haven't. Plus, I'm just a car nerd who lives near Detroit, this stuff is in our blood around here.

Let's call it half in jest. I know getting the old hotness to modern crash standard would require metric tonnes of dollars. What I don't understand is why they have to dirty a good old name with so many great memories tied to it Instead of a new name. It's also not as ugly as a Rogue, but someone would really have to try to do that.
It just feels wrong. Even the second gen and "oj Broncos" didn't seem worthy of the name. Like the new eclipse, that bloated mustang e, the mustang 2, I even have mixed feeling on the mid engine vette, but as a flagship vehicle, they get a pass.
Sentimental reasons really, but, to me it looks like most everything else on the road, not something special.
So are the rumors that Ford is developing a 7 speed manual for the Bronco bunk? IIRC, there was pretty solid evidence that it might make production.
Regardless, I'm pretty excited that these 3 models are going to be produced. The fact that Ford is making a 2 door SUV in 2021 is pretty damn awesome.
The Wrangler has owned this niche market for far too long. For a manufacturer to put a legit effort into competing in this market space shows that Ford is serious. If anybody can do it, Ford can. As a former Wrangler owner, I'm happy that there is going to be a direct competitor.
I might be ok with the auto. Maybe. After sitting in a base Ranger this past weekend, Ford does know how to do basic. Manual seats, simple layout, truck is available with vinyl floor and rear seat delete in the extended cab. It's the real deal.
The FJ Cruiser hit that same demographic wonderfully on the base model trucks and they're great. I'm hoping that someone at Ford gives us the possibility to option one all the way down even knowing that 99% of them will be sold with carpet and fancy stuff. It will be hard to get one like that in the first year, but I'm crossing my fingers.

It sounds like you're specifically talking about the Bronco Sport, which is the Escape based crossover. It's more or less a Jeep Cherokee competitor:

There are 3 vehicles shown in this thread.
A unibody crossover (Bronco Sport) and a body on frame, Wrangler competitor available in 2 and 4 door models (Bronco). The Bronco will have a removable top, looks like a pretty modern, but authentic take on the original to me, and should have legitimate off road chops. I don't find it to be an inappropriate homage to the original at all.
Bronco Sport looks like a refresh of the previous model Escape.
Bronco 4-Door looks badass. Those are some serious flares.
Bronco 2-Door is icon level design. Like, I could legitmately want one of those.
This is 110% better than I thought it'd be. That said, I'll probably never own one. Dream garage, money-no-object? Sure. A 4 door with that tasty 7.3 chucked in. But I think we'll successfully colonize Mars first.
The sport is not to my liking, but the other two look really good.

Yes, but the ranger whose chassis is shared is the 2.3, and the leak from the Canadian Tire system said 2.3

After seeing the leaked photos I could legit ditch some of my current rides to bring this home depending on powertrain and price of admission (I.e. as long as it's not in well equipped Raptor price territory)
From what I understand so far, the 2.3T will be the base engine and the 2.7T will be the premium engine choice for the Bronco. I believe that the manual will only be available with the 2.3T. They might break it up like the Gladiator/JL where only certain engine/trans configurations are available in the 2 door and 4 door.
We'll see...
