The potential for heaven or the potential for hell?

Asking for someone who isn't likely to heed any advice given anyways.

Are you talking about significant other/spouse?

Heck, I dunno.  It could work either way.  I do know this:  My wife and I pretty much do NOT agree on cars.  She needs horsepower.  I can appreciate a "momentum" car that is fast in corners.  I like European sophistication.  She likes classic American iron.  She wants to sell the one "extra" car we have.  I think it would be good to have an "extra" car and would probably pick up a few other cheap drivers if left to my own devices.   I could go on and on....

Married 18 years.  laugh

Edit:  It's probably better if you don't have the same exact inclination, because balance.

Edit Edit:  At least she pretty much IS a car person, we just have different likes and dislikes.  Not sure how we'd get along if she didn't give a rip about cars.

Less about appreciate and more about respect. SWMBO has no idea what I'm on about when I see a super minty corolla or some other crap. She doesn't get it- she likes buttons and E36 M3. HOWEVER, she tries extremely hard to actually share it with me, and she sends me pics and tells me about cars that she sees from time to time. That's what makes it for me.

My GF drives a Mazda 3 6MT, wants a Miata, and actively supported my decision to buy a rusty Saab. We've been together for 14 years. Need I say more?

It can be dangerous. My wife is a bad influence when it comes to cars and is a passive enabler most of the time.

She picked out her '08 9-3 SportCombi (turbo manual wagon) and just wants it fixed whenever something goes wrong. Beats a car payment most of the time, I guess. She's now pushing me to finish restomodding our DOHC-swapped CRX. She knows what she wants and trusts me to execute, but has very little concept of the costs or time involved, so I'm left to the logistics. Oh well. I get to play with things and we're happy. It works. I wouldn't call it heaven nor hell, but it sure as E36 M3 beats my friends with significant others who won't let them park a car in the driveway or have something that resembles a project.

DW and I both like comfortable but unboring dailies.  We both like mid-size cars toward the smaller end of that range.  We both like responsiveness in acceleration, handling, and braking.

She like buttons and stuff; I'm less enthused about that, but don't mind.  Unfortunately my car has CarPlay (which I truly could not care less about) and hers does not.

I taught her how to drive a manual, but she pretty much refuses to.  That's our biggest discrepancy.

She's not comfortable in the Manic Miata and doesn't really like riding in it, but she doesn't mind me having it.

So overall we're pretty compatible, which is how we wound up with remarkably similar cars.

I definitely doubt I'm going to find a woman my age that likes my Saturn or my Caprice as much as me.  A lot of my homies are just as dumb as me though.  Actually most of them still think the Saturn is trash. (They're not wrong...but..still...)

My wife is not a car person at all. She likes looking at old cars at car shows and all that, but doesn't really like any of the "old cars" we have.

I find it better to have a group of friends who have the same taste in terrible vehicles that I have. It's almost like a contest to see who can bring home the worst crapcan and survive the day without being handed divorce papers. laugh

Tbh, kinda happy the wife doesn't care much for cars other than if it's fast and it looks good to her. Beyond that, she couldn't give two E36 M3s about working on her car or modifying it.

If we BOTH had the same hobbies, my garage would be worse off than what it is currently and nothing would ever get done.

Well I have a "driver".. or the person who wants the spoils without the work and continually bitches about not being able to "drive". Yet won't/can't afford or put the work into having something.

My ex only cared about cars insofar as it turned heads and SHE was looked at (should have been a red flag, eh?)

My GF now is happy with whatever but likes to drive something nice.  The unicorn Jaag is actually hers.  But she has happily driven whatever I'm not currently working on and she has no problem with my dragging home projects.  She supports my autocrossing and tried it a few times but prefers to ride.  She's encouraged me to do more track days and generally is awesomely cool about things automotive.

Mrs. VCH is into Heffes and Shandys, and dislikes hoppy beer.  So read into that however you like

Those aren't my favorites BUT I like that it wasn't "beers with 'light' in the name".  Those aren't beers you find because everyone else is drinking them.  Good on her.  I think this is an open and shut case.

I'm glad my ex-wife and now my girlfriend don't share the passion for it. It's nice to have something you can do with your pals, or occasionally with your SO, so you can come back and share new experiences with the other and such.

I think it's more important to have someone who understands your hobbies and interests, and supports you in your sometimes hopeless endeavors of fixing up that clapped out E36 M3 instead of being interested in the same thing.

My soon to be ex did none of that.

Honestly between the two of us, I enjoy bigger E36 M3boxes, but she has an eye for the more futile. Obviously BG chassis is my go to and if I didn't have them as projects I'd have either a Volvo 240, 318ti or a duratec ZX3. She previously owned a first gen focus, her project car is a 2.7t A6 and if she didn't have the A6 she'd want a Volvo 240 as a project.

She came with a 26x32' garage.

A millennial model but not obnoxious.

That’s just one of the long list of items included with this specific trim level.  The performance packages will remain undisclosed. The additional features fitted to this particular model also depend on the individual’s preference of options that are requested. However, many features are still available and may be selected. For instance, luscious hops growing on the backyard (Centennial, Columbus, Cascade and Nugget), a kegarator, a mini fridge, 5 tool boxes (one snap on), floor jack, ramps, compressors etc. A separate storage (may be transformed into a She-Shed) shed, off street parking! Driveway, parking pad behind house with room to store at minimum 5 vehicles. Not to mention unlimited invitations to cars and coffee, breweries, farmers market, festivals and auto cross events etc.
