I'm enjoying following your progress! I have a similar project going on a place i bought a year and a half ago. My progress is much slower because it is 5 hours from home, but i have learned a few things from your posts.
Based on your posts, If you have a decent hill on the property, you might be interested in something like this!

I wish! I have zero real hills sadly. I do have a buddy a few miles away that I have sent that too though!
I came for the cool cabin build.
I stayed for the knowledge that you can buy a Turd Burner 3000 cabin commode that burns your turds.
This thread delivers.

I am still really happy with the turd burner. It just works. Cleaning it out is not bad, just ash. The only part that sucks if it fills with ash the "deposit" does not always fall all the way in, then gets stuck in the trap door, throwing error codes and on fire.... Really entertaining.

Rolling out for project time.... Daughter whined enough it's time to build the second cabin. Going to do it just like my shed. 12x16 shed roof. Wish me luck.
Piers in, deck on.
I'm tired already
Holy smokes, man!
That is a dang CHAINSAW!
Also, if you're still taking requests I'd like to put one in for my own personal cabin when you're done with the one for your daughter. I'll have my architect send you the blueprints and we can talk

It RIPs! It hurts loud, like ear plugs and muffs loud.
I can do a second cabin, let me know! Nothing is guaranteed to be plumb level or square however.
One wall up. One framed on the deck. Less cripples etc.
My wife is on the local "buy nothing group" scored us a mini fridge, and a water dispenser. Uses a 5 gallon jug and does hot and cold. Both are awesome. I should probably do the electrical panel at some point.... My ghetto rigging is working, but we are adding more loads.... It has not tripped a breaker yet tho.
And she thought that "no trespassing" was too harsh for the neighbors, we have one right behind us that has trails all over and some dump onto our property. She got creative

Making progress. 2nd wall up. Need a few cripples, but may add another window.
I made it taller than the shed.... 12'6 on the tall side. I guess it will shed snow better
Good old Datsun doing it's work. HD was 5 sheets short of t1-11....
Started at 5:30, Got all the walls up, 2 sheets on and went and hung out with some old friends for the day.
Love the view and the work!
Edit: and the TurdBurner 3000..

All the t1-11 that HD had is up. I need 5 more sheets. Rafters are in, front edge is blocked. I need to cut outlookers in and its ready to sheet. Not bad progress IMO. A few hours Saturday, half day Sunday, and a few hours Monday.
Need a bit more lumber, roof sheeting and maybe next weekend I can wrap up the roof.
I think the water heater needs a little roof over it...
Very ghetto, but really nice to have. Taking a hot shower after being all sweaty and dusty is really nice. I should probably strap that gas line up
The amazon knockoff of the Milwaukee pump works great.
Made some more progress on the trail. I need to get the throttle cable done for the coot and try it
This thing works pretty well.

Made a new chair, I broke one at the fire pit....
I can't decide if this is really dumb or not. Safety sandals and Chainsaw chaps. I'm not sure my tennis shoes would really do any better
And a 661 with a fresh chain absolutely berkeleys.

Don't know why I haven't opened this thread yet. Great work. I'd do a sign like that but I'd be afraid wvumtnbkr would take that as an invitation to get naked and walk right in.

Really enjoying reading through this and seeing all you're doing. It's great that your kids are interested in helping and I hope your daughter appreciates that amazing view from the cabin she helped to build. Keep up the great work.

Well shes 15, helping isn't really her thing..... But the paint she was on board for so I am not complaining! She did enjoy having some girl friends over and having their own little place.
Got a text from the neighbor. berkeley.
Didn't get any buildings..... But I have a subterranean transformer now....
Before.... Blew the fiberglass pedestal Completely out.
Yikes! Does PG&E (I'm assuming) come take care of that for you, or are you own your own?

You don't let anyone near it. One takes the toy chain saw and trim the branches off, buck it to 8 to 12 lengths, run it through the mill and poof dimensional lumber.

I think the above was in reference to the smooshed transformer, not the tree.

Not PG&E, but yes luckily they did. Branches where literally stuck in the transformer base with all the lovely un breakered hot wires!
Neighbor bucked it up so the road was passable..... That's a 7ish yd bucket.
Small. Tree.
