It's good so far (I'm 5 episodes in). Purple man's character is creepy, Cage and Jones are well cast and interestingly written. I think it'd be enjoyable even if you didn't give a berkley about comics or any of that stuff.

We're enjoying it here. Think we just finished episode 6. Doing our best to limit ourselves to 2 episodes in a sitting, and not just binge-watch.
This is one of the better done Marvel spinoffs I've seen. Really good hard-boiled detective twist on the superhero genre.
Only watched the first episode, as Netflix was having some issue with playback. Too many people trying to watch at the same time I guess.
+1. We're three episodes in, but pretty well hooked. Pretty dark for Marvel, but I'm not complaining. After that crapshow that was the latest Avengers movie, I could use a little grit and grime and actual plot and character from Marvel.
I just started Agents of Shield this weekend since Gotham only has 1 season on Netflix so far, but I keep seeing this pop up on my suggested line.
Thanks to this thread with 5 posts I already know more about it than this morning. Marvel comic-y thing I see? Not a comic guy but Gotham was more entertaining than I expected (the Penguin was awesome), and so far AoS has been fun (9 ep in so far).
I'm two episodes in. Very impressed so far. It's a lot darker and edgier than the normal Marvel effort. Jessica reminds me of the heroine (well, the main character) of Chuck Wendig's "Blackbirds" series, Miriam Black. Broken, but still up and swinging. I like it.
And David Tennant. Sheesh.
I just did episode 7 last night. It took a few episodes for me to get hooked. My wife disagrees but I think Ritter is holding her own. Tennant is doing a good job of playing the Master...(Whovians will get that.)
In reply to Flight Service: Perfect call on the master. Missy would approve of "one step forward"
Otherwise I have caught a few minutes here and there walking through the living room while it is on. I'll watch it in full at some point. I know the Netflix shows tie together, but I wonder if this is part of the MCU.

Agreed. Both take the "gritty hero" direction, but Jessica Jones seems to do it better. It feels more believably gritty somehow. Like the grittiness is meant more to elicit sympathy rather than just prove that this is Serious Drama.

I had no idea what "Jessica Jones" was but based on the alliterative name I correctly guessed it was Marvel based.
My question is do you Marvel fans find this naming convention cute and endearing, corny or an annoyance.
We watched the first recently, and I posed this question: This is not Mr. Robot again, how?

Not quite done yet. Still liking it. Really like Kilgrave as an interesting villain who is totally believable within the internal logic of the world created. I also like that they have another character who acts as his mundane mirror, by being a similar sociopathic manipulator without using any super powers.
I've got two (spoiler free) complaints having to do with suspension of disbelief and internal logic:
I hate the red-headed neighbor girl. She is just obnoxious. She derails the pacing and mood of the story. It's a gear shift as though you through in comic relief, only she isn't funny. She's irritating and annoying.
They use Jessica's powers inconsistently with her being able to bend metal and pull doors off their hinges as one moment, and then unable to break a man's wrist the next.
Both of these seem to come from the need to keep the tension and complication levels up. When you've established super powers, they're a really easy way to get around normal limitations. In order to get her into physical peril, they sometimes violate their own rules. Most of the characters behave in a way that makes sense for them. They make mistakes, but they don't do pointlessly stupid crazy things. The redhead neighbor does, and seems to be a device just to stir up trouble that also violates the logic of the world created.
I still can't get into it after 6 or 7 episodes in. Must be the stupid sex scenes they have to show.
The end was a little anti-climactic I thought. I won't go into details to prevent ruining it but it just seemed, off.
I've watched about 6 episodes now, and I can't figure out why she doesn't just wear earplugs and go after him. Wouldn't his powers be useless over her if she can't hear him?

He kinda covers that a few times during the last few episodes. He always has 'contingencies' in place.
