Anyone see it? I liked the first movie. Is this worth the the $5 for pay per view?
Yeah, it's worth five bucks. I thought it was good.
Trivia: He actually trained with Real OMG Guns and Real OMG Ammo and a Real OMG Firearms Instructor for this pic. They said he worked hard and wasn't a dick.
He plays with guns and motorcycles a lot. He is no actor but damn if he isn't a sexy SOB living the dream.
FWIW, I really like almost all his movies. The berkeleying matrix. Wick I was awesome. Point Break. Some devil E36 M3. Bill and Ted. He is like a successful Vin Diesel.
Actually watched it just this weekend. Loved, LOVED the unapologetic world building, the old-school Hong Kong style of shooting action, and the overall pulp-noir feel. It's a dumb movie made by smart people.
Reeves trained with some of the top competitive shooters in the sport and developed some serious skills. The firearm work in the film is fairly unimpeachable, and , in my opinion, actually looks cooler on screen than the highly stylized firearm handling of so many action movies. It's the same way the car chases in "Ronin" were so good, because they were well-shot with actual driving techniques, not highly-stylized constantly-sideways action.
But, yeah, overall a fun genre flick. Worth the stream price.
Just saw the first one a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Can't wait for my coworker to buy the sequel and lend it to me!
It was well worth paying to see in a theatre. It is definitely worth $5 streaming.
JG says it right about being a "dumb movie made by smart people." And everyone knows it's dumb, and they don't pretend it's highbrow, and they sincerely care about pouring all of themselves into making it the best dumb action flick it can possibly be.
The action sequences are fantastic.
I just rented it as well. I re-watched the first one the day before, so it was cool to see the continuity back to back. The shooting was awesome, the action on that Benelli was incredible and did not help my desire for a customized 12-gauge.
I'd also like to point our that he had a real PitBull. It was gorgeous, and it was loyal and friendly and was a good dog and never attacked anyone. That's what 99.9% of them do (the rest are tortured and trained by scum) so props to the director for that.

Agreed. 1 was edgy, smart, fast paced, and knew what it was: An action flick...lets not be bothered by too much plot or character development. 2 tried to get clever with some of the overplayed 50's pinup visuals - the operators with their tatoos and pinned hair, the weird European rave with the underground tunnels, the hotel concierge discussing arms as though they were fine suits and such. It was well done with the same great cinematography and post production stuff, but those bits didnt do it for me.
Aside from all that, the action was still there. I enjoyed the ongoing fights with Common, and then the interlude in the bar where they were all civil. I think that stuff is creative and fun, and not as full of itself as the stuff I mentioned before. And yes, the gunplay was refreshingly real, and not the overhyped Michael Bay stuff we get so much of from Hollyweird. Keanu is my hero.
But, why destroy the Mustang?!? Wont someone think of the children?!?

The man can shoot, and well. Better then a lot of people at the high end three gun matches out here.

As Joe Bob Briggs would say, they didn't let the plot get in the way of the movie.
Some rather sad old car abuse (Mustang and Chevelle).
Pretty much non-stop action. The action starts to become a bit silly at times (e.g. kind of like guys are just lining up to get shot) and almost all shooting is done a SUPER close range.
Plot is not as interesting as the first one and starts to get a bit "meta".
Something I noticed. There is a primary opponent who is portrayed by a fairly well known actor/raper. It's clear in the fights scenes that Reeves is WAY better at the fighting sequences.
I never knew (or thought) much about Keanu, but a couple of months ago I listened to the nerdist.com podcast he was on. He comes across as a pretty cool, smart guy, very likeable.

Wait, whut? The plot of John Wick was literally:
Bad guy kills John Wick's dog.
John Wick kills everybody else.

The guy has spent obscene amounts of his own money producing films that lost money just because a) It's something he thought was cool and wouldn't get made any other way or b) It's something a trusted friend of his wanted to get made and he believed in their creative passion enough to lose money financing it.
To quote Rocky Balboa*, "That's how winning is done."
*PS: Despite all the high-profile stuff, Stallone is very much another guy from this mold. Vin Diesel as well. These are guys that leverage their success to further the creative process, and I have a lot of respect for that.
In reply to Duke: LOL Plot summary: ...and a few days after his wife dies, you steal his car and kill his berkeleying dog.

FTFY
In reply to Huckleberry:
The thing I love about that scene is that he takes his suit coat off/rolls up his sleeves because he KNOWS the obnoxious kid is going to say something stupid deserving of a gut punch, several minutes in advance of it actually happening. Then, mission accomplished, he calmly puts the coat back on.
2 of my favorite scenes from the original:

Somebody did an interview of him a few years back. Seems, he lived in the Chateau Marmont and daily drove a Norton. He gets my vote.

And that is interesting.
