In one of those absolutely fascinating coincidences, Grooveshark just chose the moment I read your post to play "Illustrated Man" out of the big batch of random Johnny Winter songs that I had queued up in his honor.
Man, hate to hear that. One of my favorite albums in my teen daze:

That's Edgar Winter, Johnny's little brother, in the version you're thinking of. Though Frankenstein grew out of a long jam song that Edgar and Johnny used to play live.
I saw him at the Shaboo Inn what seems like a thousand years ago - he was too drunk to stand up but he could still play the guitar.

Yeah, any time who would play around my area, I would go see him.
Each time, I had to go, because I felt it would be the last time I would see him before he died.
He was a Helluva huge influence on me in my guitar-playing days.
