I saw this on the back of a dog groomer van. I'm kind of floored it's even a thing. Why in the hell would you pay someone to pet your dog? I mean, I'm lazy, but if you are too lazy to pet you dog, maybe you shouldn't get one.

There's actually a dog physical therapy place near me. It's huge. I think they even have a pool.

Whatever happened to just hitting them with a newspaper?wink

Our oldest has an occasional back spasm/pain. We have to use heat and massage it out of her. They did offer laser treatment (did one for free to try and get us hooked. it did help).

Don't want to talk about the amount of money we spent on the oldest for 2 knee surgeries, anal gland rupture and 14 years of benedryl for her allergies. But she was a happy dog who enjoyed her life and we enjoyed her.

We were at a cookout a few months back at SWMBO's sister and BIL's house. One of the neighbor couples they're friendly with are both veterinarians and somehow we got onto the subject of dog and horse masseuses and chiropractors (yup, apparently that's a thing as well.) The female half of the vet couple swore up and down about the benefits of this kind of treatment as a sort of preventative maintenance for breeds prone to hip dysplasia and similar issues and cited several studies to that effect.

I guess it would be something to consider if my dog had issues with chronic pain or something like that, but it still seems rather ridiculous to me.

I go for a massage when my neck tightens up.  Why not do it for a dog?  It is just like petting the dog, just a bit more intensive- I don't have a dog myself just now, but everybody else's dog gets a good thorough rubbin' and skritchin'.  They all seem pretty happy with me...

yeah, this.  I wouldn't pay someone else to do it, but I'll knead fluffy's neck/shoulders/back gently. you can tell he likes it

This is kind of my point. If you have a pet, you usually enjoy petting it. Why in the world would you pay someone to do what most pet owners do when they get home. Hell, I walk in my door in the afternoon and both dogs come running because they know there is a petting and rubbing coming. It its too much trouble, maybe they shouldn't have a pet to start with.

I was working near a doggie day care/ physical therapy place for a while and went in to check it out.  With more dog parks opening up there’s a rise in dog park related injuries and these places rehab them.  They have a treadmill in warm water where the dogs with hip and leg injuries float in the water and run on the treadmill.  It’s as cute to watch as it sounds.

It was as disgusting as it sounds. Some dogs need help getting that gland expressed. Apparently she did, but she never showed signs of pain or discomfort so we didn't realize there was a problem until it ruptured. Even when she tore her knees there wasn't a single noise.... she just started carrying her bad one. Never slowed that dog down.

Pretty sure my pup would think it was playtime and try to chew on there hands but i could see it helping older dogs. Then again my puppy weighs 70lbs and sits in my lap so im a sucker for dogs.

For some of my clients at least, I'm their "other family doctor."  Just like us, dogs get a lot of aches and pains as they age, and one of the most gratifying parts of my profession is helping to maintain the quality of life for my elderly patients. After all, I'm planning to be an old dog myself!

I have 5 veterinarians in my family. One of them has an additional PHD in Equine science (and another DVM type doctorate as well). They state that it is most certainly not quacky, and have studies and anecdotes to prove it. Another one of them is a certified animal accupuncturist; he also has similar beliefs about it--he says it is more successful than you would ever believe. And this is a guy who is quick to admit when he's made a mistake or wasted money.

I’m giving certified and approved dog massages at my home.  Only for you will I give you a discount if $100 per 1/2 hour massage. They work. Trust me.  The dogs tell me.

Now pay me $200 an hour to touch your dog.

I might sign up for a dog massage, but only if they've had their nails trimmed. My cats give me massages all the time but I'm ready to step up to dog massage. Dixie is not interested in walking on my back.

I just gave my dogs a massage. It was free. That's the only massage they will ever get.

Ours won't walk on my back. They absolutely will lick my ears and try their hardest to franticly lick the rest of my face as well.

Oh trust me, I totally get it. My family is about as "doggy" as they come. My pooch, and the need to drop him off at my parent's every day, is even a ,major influence on my car buying decisions. Not even SWMBO holds that kind of sway cheeky

But everyone draws the line somewhere and for me that falls somewhere short of sending my dog for regular massages.
