My zero turn came with a Deka battery that has lasted almost 8 years. I don't know what was the original warranty. Going back to the Ferris mower dealer, they sell a interstate battery with a 6 month warranty. I've bought 6 month warranty batteries from Walmart and auto parts store and they lasted less than a year. I can find several different brands of batteries with different prices ($50 - 100 ) but all with a six month warranty, including a Deka battery. How do I know if I'm buying a better battery based on price or if I'm just paying more money for garbage. TIA.
I used to buy by weight, heavier the better. Also Costco sells interstate tractor batteries and mine last about 5-6 years, even if I let them go dead every winter.
For what it's worth, I've all but given up on flooded lead-acid batteries for any application. In my considerable experience, they last for one, or at most two seasons of regular use. I've switched to sealed lead acid or AGM type batteries and they will last for years with little to no attention.
So, no. Don't buy on price. Spend twice as much and enjoy the longevity.
I'll second the AGM recommendation and also say I have great experience so far with Interstate batteries from either Costco or the local Interstate store.
Costco interstate batteries are hit or miss, depending on how you value your time the exchange policy makes it worth while.
Taking the Costco Interstate batteries out of my big dumb van and installing Batteries Plus private label Odyssey AGMs was a great decision, the Odyssey were 20% heavier to boot with a corresponding increase in CCA.
Where do you find AMG mower batteries? Motorcycle batteries won't fit my mower and I don't have a Costco close to me..
Costco also ships, but not 100% sure if they will ship a battery although I imagine they would
