My Galaxy S5 is in need of replacement. Please learn me about GRM friendly phones.
Budget of.... $300 Because I need to buy 2 of them. What is good, what to avoid. Personal experiences and opinions welcome.

I like my LG K51 a lot. I'm not one of those people who does a ton of stuff on their phone, but what I do use it for, it does well. And $150ea.
I choose the Power model because big battery (huge battery) is more important than better camera.
Also available at Target. My store keeps them on stock.
What provider? Verizon still likes to lock a lot of phones because shiny happy people, which limits selection a bit.
Anywhere else? Just got the galaxy A71, and while it has some annoying Samsung quirks, i like it better than the Pixel 4a I just had.
'nother vote for Moto G. I have had two generations of them and they are really good for the price. I have AT&T as a provider but have had T-Mobile in the past.
Pixel 4a is the best bargain choice, IMO.
Which network? I really like my Nokia 6.1, and I've handled the 7.2 which is also really nice, but they're GSM-only.

Another Moto G user here. I don't do much more demanding with phones than Angry Birds; these don't give me much to complain about other than that IP67 waterproofing would be nice to have.
If you can find it, a Pixel 2 has been my brick for three years now and is just showing signs of battery fatigue. I'm really sad that I need a replacement Buy it independently and unlocked. Otherwise it comes with Verizon/ATT bloatware.
Only reason I'm not getting another Pixel 2 is because I'm on Fi's network which partly uses Tmobile, and some of the new bands Tmobile uses aren't supported by the older phone.
But I've been so happy with the Pixel line that I'll probably nurse this one through for a while until the Pixel 5 stops being $700.
If you like the Apple/iOS ecosystem and can find the iPhone SE2020 on sale it might fit in budget. It's small for a smartphone, which I like. The camera is okay. It does phone things as it should.

You missed a few days of the pixel 5 being $550, but now it's sold out everywhere at any price, which has been raising questions. I'm liking the pixel 5 about 6 weeks in, but not loving it. I'm missing having a home button.
I have a G7 power and like it , its unlocked and I got it at Amazon ,
the Amazon prices change thru the week , but its less than $200
I buy used. I refuse to pay those prices. theres a good ebay vendor (sounds backwards) that specializes in used phones.
The new generation Nokia's are pretty decent. My partner has a 5.3, it's a nice phone at a good price point. They're on the android one platform meaning constant and guaranteed security updates. The biggest reason she went that way as opposed to another moto g was the moto g no longer has gorilla Glass, they moved away from that after the g7.
I'm a fan of lg, I ended up with an LG g8 recently as my moto g5 was dying a slow death. IP rated for water resistance, fast, and almost the same size as my g5. I hate big phones, my phone lives in my pocket and I don't want something the size of a paperback novel stuffed in there making me uncomfortable. They're a little over your price point, but it's alot more phone than many others in that 150-200 bracket.
As an aside, moto now belongs to Lenovo, so bear that in mind if Chinese phone companies bother you. If it doesn't, then oppo, Huawei etc are also worth considering.

Good to know. I've also been looking at the 4a.
They keep going back and forth between waterproof OR headphone jack. Now there are a couple with both features. My Pixel 2 doesn't have the headphone jack, but it did spend 3 hours in 20' of water when I dropped it in the lake and had to go back for my scuba gear. Waterproof is a good feature for me.
