So I'm having iPod issues. It's an ancient iPod Classic with about 12k songs (I think). They were all created and ripped through CD's I owned with an old Mac. I've since gone away from Apple and use Android and Windows. How do I get my music off my iPod onto my Dell laptop (Windows 10)? I've downloaded Touchcopy but can't figure it out... Any help would be appreciated!![](https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/prod.mm.com/uploads/2025/01/31/ipod-errors_thumb.jpg)
I have an old iPod from my Mac days and I used CopyTrans It's pretty easy and Manager is free. Now I use it to move files back and forth to my iPad. I haven't used iTunes in a long, long time.

I used IMazing to download my Ipod to my Windows 10 desktop. The computer the music was originally stored on had crashed and I had no digital back up. I've always been surprised how difficult it is to move music from device to device. Good luck.
iTunes for Windows will rip whatever format the iPod uses into actual MP3 files. Its time consuming, but I bet you could install iTunes, then plug in the iPod, then select like 100 songs at a time to convert to .MP3.

The screenshots above are what happens when I plug in the iPod - it wants to reformat the iPod so I can use it. I'm 99.9% sure that's going to delete my music so I need a third party option.
Do old iPods need to be signed up to an Apple account ?
I have a couple that I found in cars thru the years , would be interesting to see what songs are on them !
Looks like trying to access it from a Mac may work, or if it's accessible as a USB mass storage device, a Linux PC may have the software to access that filesystem. Those error messages suggest that it's using a filesystem Windows can't access.
