Should be incredibly simple, right?
I have bluetooth hooked up, but it seems all that’s good for is making fuzzy phone calls.
Hooking my iphone up to the usb port in the center console only yielded a “device not supported” message.
Seems as though the only solution is the GM adaptor that came with the car new (which I do not have,) and even if I did, it was the big, wide pin deal for whatever generation of ipod they were making in 2010.
A little help please?
Something like this is your answer: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=38479
Plug it into your AUX jack, use the USB port for power.
Is it possible that there are too many paired devices stored on your phone or in the car's stereo?
My Pioneer in the FR-S allows 6. I think my phone, S4, allows 6 or 7.
From Googling, it appears that the head unit from CTSV's of that vintage only support Bluetooth as a phone headset, not Bluetooth audio streaming.
If it makes you feel any better, my Cadillac ATS (non- CUE) suffered from the same issue in 2014 (no ability to stream music over bluetooth). It did have a 3.5mm input, though, but messing with wires seemed crazy in 2014. I had a rental Chevy Spark that had no problems streaming music via bluetooth.
I have a couple of bluetooth thingys that I recently got from Best buy that I'm having to give up on for the simple reason when rideshare driving the text to voice navigation can barely be heard unless you turn it up and then that blasts the music which ain't good for the passenger. One went into the aux the other the cigarette lighter the latter one using empty white space on the dial which then you preset like a normal station also doubled as a charger of course.
Using normal google directions and apple music was great and after some effort equalized very well.
The rideshare apps - well they can't seem to do that.
This one.

and this one.

the cig lighter one had some white noise between songs but it didn't bother me and the simple thing is great just needs recharged after a number of hours in the aux.
simple. currently $27.
cig lighter. currently $30.
definitely recommend if they could work.

Thanks, dick.
Yes, I googled it. Yes, I read other forum posts. I don’t need bluetooth. I’d just like to be able to plug the phone in & listen to muzak.
OK, so what you need is a lightning to audio adapter that also has a charge port. Sadly they all seem to be total crap. The loss of the 3.5mm headphone jack is what's got me still stuck on an iPhone 6 for now. Essentially you need a splitter that plugs into your lightning jack and gives you a 3.5mm line output or headphone jack and another lightning port to plug a USB to lightning cable into. The USB to lightning plugs into a USB jack or charger to charge the phone, the 3.5mm line output you connect to the line in on your car stereo.
Belkin makes one:
https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Lightning-Rockstar-Adapter-Charging/dp/B074WDWVX1?th=1
That's $40 and gets very mixed reviews. Lots of people saying theirs quit working after a few months. You can get cheaper ones, and they get even worse reviews.
Here's a cheap one that gets suspiciously good reviews:
https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Headphone-Headset-Aux-Connection-Converter-Support/dp/B07NRXCVQB/ref=sr_1_10?crid=30HP6HUFLHGHH&keywords=lightning+charge+and+headphone+adapter&qid=1554255657&s=wireless&sprefix=lightning+charge+an%2Cmobile%2C168&sr=1-10
Might be someone posting fake reviews to beef up their product rating. So what's it going to be punk, you feel lucky? Do ya'?
Haha, I just read the actual reviews and they're not even for the device. Someone's hijacked the product page and changed it to their knockoff of a Belkin thing, keeping the positive reviews in the process. Well, you're on your own as far as finding a *good* headphone and charge adapter for the iPhone. But that's what you're looking for.
Is there not a 3.5mm aux port?
Is there not a cable available that takes the Lightning jack on one end to a 3.5mm aux on the other? That seems to be the easiest thing.
Don't feel bad, my '13 135i doesn't even support music over Bluetooth.

So perhaps I’m retarded. I too have a 6S. Hadn’t considered the aux jack. Durp.
My mini clubman also only uses Bluetooth for phone calls.
This adapter
http://Bluetooth Aux Adapter, U2 Mini Wireless Car Bluetooth Receiver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H6YMT9Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xUlPCbX115F22
Is tiny, inexpensive and has been working great. I set my phone to still have the car as phone only and the U2 as audio only so I can still receive calls while streaming music and the radio display will tell me who is calling
The odd thing about the U2 is that it will accept multiple connections so if I am playing music and the missus gets a text you will hear the sounds of both phones
