When I picked up an E30 years ago, I flew out with a Sony Discman, some CDs and the tape adapter and wires to make it work.
The Discman was on the stack of CDs with a horde of wires everywhere. Needless to say, I was pulled from the line and asked what it was. Laughs were had after they opened my bag and saw it.
Halogen lights get them all excited, but only until they open up the bag. Honestly, weird stuff isn't that bad as long as you can explain it.
I brought a bunch of tools with me on a recent trip to Ottawa in my checked bags. TSA protected me and destroyed a few of them by simply throwing everything into the bag when they were done.
