Looks like the Boost clan is moving this autumn (well, in Michigan it'll be autumn, in Florida I guess it'll be summer part III). My in-laws are in Venice, but it appears Venice is a bit out of my price range.
North Port, and Port Charlotte keep popping up in our real estate searches. What can you folks that know the locale tell me about the area? The good, the bad, and the ugly.

From my limited travels through the area from my base in St Pete I would say the areas south of Venice will be cheaper than north and even then you will have sticker shock coming from the mid-west. The whole section from Venice to Ft Meyers has been slow to develope and you can still find deals on nice places.

I've been through Port Charlotte before, picking up old outboards from snowbirds after they moved down, other random errands like that.
Its a kind of weird area from what I've seen. Unincorporated area so the county runs everything, partially because its unincorporated it has a weird sprawl and no real dedicated center (at least, that I've seen. Remember, I haven't been there for the nightlife.) The beaches are solid, though.
Personally I'd try to go a little bit inland. The area got fairly badly hit by a hurricane or two. You'll also are likely to get more land.

I'm from Port Charlotte. There's basically nothing outside of the main strip on 41.
Thanks all. I'm not apposed to foingninland a bit for more space. We do want to stay within a 30 minute drive from Venice, for the in-laws.
