Picked up an LG G Pad 7.0 for cheap through a cell company deal(AT&T, my wife takes care of all the cell stuff). My current device list is an iPhone, a chromebook, and the tablet.
I've learned the very basics, but none of the finer points of android use and customization. Usage is mostly video streaming and app games, it feels like I'm missing out on some greater usefulness. The chrome browser is more like a touch screen version of the desktop, it feels to be less optimized than chrome for iOS. So far it has a magnetic tri-fold case and somewhere I have an OBD2 reader. Lastly, being a cell company device it has a bit of seemingly non-removable carrier bloatware.
Where do I go from here?
Torque Pro to use with your OBD2 reader.
Pandora for tunes.
FoxFi to use your tablet as a wifi hotspot.
Google goggles for looking up barcodes, QR codes and UPCs.
CamScanner uses the camera in your phone or tablet and spits out perfectly adequate PDFs. I feel like a 60's TV spy when I take pictures of documents with my phone.
I find ES File Explorer to be quite useful.
Unified Remote allows you to control a PC with your tablet acting as a keyboard and touchpad.
Your tablet has a built in IR blaster and and app called QRemote or Quick remote, or something.
The eBay app and, of course, the PayPal app.
The Airbnb app if you want lodging that isn't a hotel(usually).
The Geocaching app.
It should be possible to root your tablet and use various apps the remove to bloatware. I can provide technical assistance with this, if you need.
What's the point to using a tablet as a wifi hotspot?

Let's say his Chromebook (or any device) is wifi only. He could turn on foxfi on his tablet and have internet access on his Chromebook.

If it has a 3/4G radio in it and a data subscription it can provide internet to other, non cellular, devices.
Oh ok, guess that makes more sense. I've always just used my tablets on wifi. I've used my phone as a hotspot for the tablet, though.
