That surprises me, I'm not much older than you and my first car was a 1980 pickup with a 3 on the tree.

cars sold without heaters or defrosters (my first car, '50 Plymouth, cowl vent, triangle vent windows, hand crank windows, floor mounted high/low beam switch, pull choke, 3 on the tree, E-brake operated a drum on the drive shaft, directional lug studs (could only use them on the side for which they were designed), vacuum wipers (non-variable speed … except for start/go if you mashed the throttle), hand choke …… 1 barrel carb, with an oil bath air cleaner, no wide shield squirters, metal dashboard, no seat belts, mechanical brakes, plate glass, inner tubes, and I'm pretty sure that there are more
Hidden gas fillers. Behind a tail light or license plate.
Pretty much the only thing in this thread that I really miss are hood ornaments. I loved the variety as a kid. And the 'aftermarket' options in the JC Whitney catalog.
Side curtains, crank start, wooden spoke wheels, hand pumps to pressurize the fuel tank, removable gas lights so you can find your way into the house at night, Lucas electrics that leave you stranded for no good reason other than a bad ground.
