LMS: moving companies for long distance

Some recent developments at work have me moving from my hometown of Elizabethtown KY to Chesapeake VA. I've never moved away from home before, so this is all new (and scary). My company has given me a generous moving bonus to cover the costs, which is super awesome of them. I'm looking to get a moving company to haul all the stuff out there in one shot because of time constraints as well as not having really any friends/family in VA to help lig things around. 3 bedroom house full of stuff, garage full of tools, riding mower, etc. I'll drive my cars out, so that's not a problem  

Have any of you guys used a big moving line before? If so, how was it? Any companies to stay away from? Ball park prices seem to be 6-7k from what I can tell.

Can you ask some of the people at work who they used ?

United Van Lines moved 5 bedroom home from California to New Hampshire.  Did good job and they paid to fix what they broke.

So, I've moved across an ocean 3 times, with a few different companies.  I don't remember what they were, but I don't think that matters much.  So, I can't help you with 'who to choose'.

dunno if your price includes packing, or if you're supposed to do the packing.  Make sure it's clear who's doing the packing/unpacking and that it's in the contract.

Also, if you've got tools... and say they're loose in a tool box of some kind... then you probably want to wrap them up yourself.  Over-the-road, things should probably get tossed around less than a couple trucks, a boat, and several forklifts.   But packers usually see tools, and they can't afford the time to wrap them up, so they tend to get tossed unceremoniously.  Which is fine for wrenches... but sucks for saws, planes, chisels, and soldering guns (etc).
