I need to book a long weekend (5 days total) with the family. 5 .5 yr old daughter. Nothing too fancy, probably a rental house. We could drive up to 5 hrs from Detroit area or fly due to having ticket vouchers from COVID. Prefer east over west. Canada is an option. My mind is blanking. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

End of March. Spring break. I want to avoid the typical spring break areas too.
In 4 years I would say Washington DC because daughter would be old enough.
If you fly, the way commercial flying has been recently, you have 3 good days at the destination.
Ft Walton Beach / Destin. Play on the Beach, do dolphin cruise, fun restaurants, and rent a boat and do a day at Crab Island. It more a family type area not trying to attract breakers.
Battle Creek, MI - tour cereal plant.
Spring in the Smokey's can be nice, just depends on the year. I was hoping to do something like that this year, start building traditions while mine is too young to have opinions
We're not, but I wanted to. Lots of cabins around the NC/TN border with plenty of good driving and views and BBQ. Pigeon Forge if you need to be a little more tourist-y, location wise, and it's not far from Dollywood. Plenty of history in the area as well as deep regional culture, if you're into that. There's also the Outer Banks for a lighthouse/pirate vacation. Did you know that Blackbeard used to take a boat up to the Governor's mansion to meet with the Governor's daughter?

Indiana Dunes is a really cool spot. You could also do the Bellaire MI area with lots of nice site seeing. Chicago for the museums is a really nice long weekend (shed aquarium, field museum, food etc). More like 10hrs but DC is great as well.

Hilton head could be nice.
I don't believe it's a spring break destination, relatively laid back, and your daughter would love the show Shannon Tanner puts on ( but I'm not sure of his schedule).

It could be for the next few years as a large number of the Florida beaches may not be open and many of the beachfront hotels, well, no longer exist (thanks to Ian).

That would definitely change the vibe of the island.
