In the Cyberpunk cars thread, we were discussing the difficulty of finding cyberpunk in ebook form. And then today, a news story came across my browser that the Internet Archive was removing lending limits for the time being.
You probably know the Internet Archive for the Wayback Machine, which stores snapshots of websites. It's a great place to go if you want to know what the Flyin' Miata website looked like in 2002. But it also archives other things.
Their lending library has something like 1.5 million books available to borrow for free. There are orphaned works in there, but there's also a bunch of mainstream stuff like those wizard books the kids like. There's an almost complete collection of William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, whatever. There's stuff for kids if you have kids. And during the current unpleasantness, there are no limits on how many times a certain book can be borrowed. There's some interesting legal aspects to that, but nobody is currently kicking up a fuss.
Also, if you want something to listen to while you're working in the shop, they have a bunch of old radio serials that you can access. Why listen to talk radio or commercials when you could be listening to Dragnet? There's live music and a deep well of other options as well.
