So they banned parking lots?
My local town blocks off Main street (yes that is the name of it. It is actualy a local highway and used to be a part of US Highway 41) one saturday a month and for I think $1.00 you can park on the street, get out and talk and socialize. The police are super friendly and will stop and ask about the cars. I have been as a spectator but cant get a car up there as I can never remember what saturday it is.
