In June, "Star Wars" director and Lucasfilm owner George Lucas announced his plans to retire, and named producer Kathleen Kennedy as chief executive of Lucasfilm, which he wholly owns.

So that's $4 billion in the retirement plan for George?

$4Bil is what Disney paid for Marvel, and I thought they vastly overpaid for that.

All your entertainment base are belong to Disney.

And yes, another movie is a bad idea.

Hmmm, this could be good. Think about, Pixar does Star Wars? Disney has done well with a lot of their brands (Cars, Toy Story, etc) and George lost his damn marbles (Jar-Jar, berking Decipher on the Star Wars CCG which was bigger than Magic, etc).

I think everyone is forgetting that its not only movies, but all the spin-off animated shows and video games. There is still a lot of money to be made in the Star Wars Franchise.

I thought the same thing. Think of what Disney did visually with the Pirates movies. Now think about the horsepower of Lucasfilm behind it. If Disney parlays that into Marvel movies- we've got some seriously gorgeous things to look at.

And, supposedly, the backing to finish out the franchise:

Honestly, I felt sorry for Lucas. Star Wars, Empire and Jedi (kinda) were such huge successes that I don't think he could have made ANY film that would have pleased the critics. My 11 year old actually likes 1, 2 and 3 better than 4, 5 and 6. That's the ones his generation remembers. Yet, Lucas was railed when Episode 1 was released.

I'm glad, if nothing else, that there's a chance his original 9 stories will be finished. Just for completeness, if nothing else.

Yep, I'm excited about the prospects. Disney loves sequels and they love buying stories. Star Wars has lots of stories available for sequels, etc. Most better than anything written by Mr. Lucas.

I'm thinking an X-Wing Squadron TV series with Rogue, Wraith and even the Empire's 181st. Tons of great content there.

Bounty Hunter's, etc.

Also: Hand. Of. Thrawn. Trilogy. Boom.

Finally, Lucas didn't really want to do the prequel, he even warned that they would not be as good as the original three, but he did it anyway to shut everyone up about it. I think the final three could be better than the middle three, but that remains to be seen.

I'm a bit of a purist in terms of lucasfilm, all I want are 4k scans, or at least blu ray of the original trilogy, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and The last Crusade, all in their original theatrical cuts. Also, burn all of the Howard the Duck masters.

I dunno, Howard the Duck had Lea Thompson in it. I appreciated that very much at the time. Probably still would.

  1. You need a job for Disney/LF as a content director.

  2. That would be an epic series of movies. Zahn was the best SW author.

i worry that this might affect my ability to watch The Clone Wars on the Cartoon Network in the future.. personally, i think that some of the best stories from all of the Star Wars universe is in that series.

Meh, Disney and Lucasfilm both make terrible sequels ad nauseum...

I don't see this being any change for either entity.

I bet Star Wars Episode 34 is straight to DVD though.
