it was an interesting concept for a movie, and I could watch her on mute all day long, but the ending seemed like they were just trying to figure out away to finish the movie.

FTFY. I enjoyed Lucy. But I don't go into many movies expecting something.

The problems with the transporter are entry-level reading for a Trekkie, the guy was a noob

We just got Edge of Tomorrow from a friend I think and got John Wick from Netflix. Was hoping they would be decent.

Both are quite decent.

The most interesting aspect of the transporter in Star Trek is that it was used in the show to reduce costs. With it, they did not have to create sequences where they flew down and landed on the surface. In other words, it wasn't driven by any plausible future technology or science, it was driven by production costs.

The best thing about the transporter was that they could milk that thing for plots for years. With TNG, there were like 4 basic plots: Transporter problems, Android problems, Holodeck problems, space monsters. Even the original series used Transporter problems for a bunch of plots.

Oh yeah, and Klingon problems. OK 5 plots.

Science fiction? Klingon problems are an everyday occurrence for anyone with a butt.
