I have thought of one other time when I was not happy driving a manual. I had an '87 camaro with a 5 speed. No Air Conditioning. The car was very low optioned, even had radio delete when I got it. Anyway, sitting in Orlando traffic in the summertime with no AC and having to hold that heavy clutch in was a pain. I would've preferred to have AC over an auto though.

I can just imaging your Saab driving around the parking lot backwards without you after you pressed the remote start button.
You can put a remote start in a manual trans car, you just need to rig up a neutral interlock with some micro switches in the shift linkage. This is beyond the skill set of a typical human, so the rule is you don't even try.
this is very true Kenny.. but like I said, the Saab locks it's transmission in reverse when you pull the key (you have to shift to reverse to pull the key) just like 99.99% of all other cars lock their steering wheel. There is -no- way to bypass it unless I want to break the linkage to the key so that it can be left in neutral.. other wise as T.J> said, first time I hit the button for remote start, it would take off in reverse
