My wife's friends rescue Chihuahuas.
They have to be the most evil, bulgey-eyed little freaks in the dog world.
I'm tired of people being frightened of giant breed dogs. Yeah my Great Dane has knocked me off my feet and I landed so hard I couldn't breathe, but she never bit me in the face.

Dachshunds always worry me. People treat them like toy dogs that don't need to be taught manners. But they are big enough to do damage and mean enough to fight badgers.
Yeah? Have you ever met a miniature Doberman?
my dad is a very mild-mannered guy. Very kind, very civil. They used to have a neighbor with a mini Doberman that kept getting out and harassing him and my mom. I asked him once how it was going:
"Well, I don't think I would drive into someone's yard to run over it"
Unfortunately:
Dog breeds ranked by which ones are taught by a-hole owners to be most aggressive:
1 - Pitbull
etc.
(what I am saying of course is the "stereotypes" generally still hold)
My great aunt had a 20-something year-old toy poodle that had probably two teeth left in it's head.
It would use those to bite anyone but her.
Chihuahuas get a bad rap because they are one-person dogs. They bond with one person and that's pretty much it. Miya loves me and is accepting of the rest of the family to a point. She will accept scratches. She will jump in their laps. She does not like to be picked up by anyone but me. She has been trained to not be aggressive but she is still vocal when she is out of her comfort zone. It's the way they are wired and there is only so much you can do to turn that off.
Our Chihuahua was the super chill, not a lap dog, best off leash dog ever kind of dog. The small size meant leaving her in a car was just fine. They don't roll in mud and dead things.
at age 17+ she is mostly deaf and dementia is setting in, so she has started barking a lot in the evenings. I bet she will still be around for a few more years.
Folks like to justify their choice of dogs as if it makes them more interesting or better than other people. I am just happy they chose a dog. Dogs are the best people.

Severe inbreeding ain't helping that any, either.

That's because they are popular with d-bag shiny happy people who shouldn't be allowed to own any dog, let alone strong and fiercely loyal ones.
