As the title says. :) I've been playing around with a bit of video editing and am wondering if any of you have some tips on how to mic a car to best capture its exhaust note.

Preferably in-car/on-car configurations so I can do driving vids rather than "stand at the side of the road and use a directional mic."

Oh, I thought you were going to measure it using micrometers.

What I've been seeing guys doing lately is an external mic taped onto the bumper above the exhaust with a rabbit hair cover on it. If your camera supports an external mic at least. Could probably do it with a standalone mic, but my knowledge of video editing is limited to "load into MS movie maker, cut out the 40 seconds of lap time from 20 minutes of grid time and save"

I think the video game developers get intake noise and exhaust noise seperately using the techniques RevRico gave and then overlay them somehow
