I'm starting to think maybe I'm getting too old for the Manic Miata.  Right now I'd trade it straight up for a decent stock MR-S.

If you feel the need to work the idea that you feel you're an Alpha male into a conversation within minutes of me introducing myself I'm never going to take you seriously.  You're welcome to think I insulted you and go complain to someone, but I don't think that's something an Alpha male would do.  Seriously, this is the second one in a month. Why are they all coming to work here?

Probably because no other possible employer would take the Alpha male bullE36 M3 seriously,  and the NYCTA is their last resort.

Nah. Village People were the wholesome and friendly kind of gay who sang about being proud of being who you are. Not molesty because you're ashamed of yourself.

I'm younger than you and I basically went the same direction. I got my Miata running but I put like 600 miles on it this year, and I'm kind of stuck on what to do with it next. Meanwhile, I've been all over with my MR2 Spyder this year and ended up 4th in my autocross championship. The only thing I wish my Spyder had is cruise control, but that didn't become an option until the post facelift cars, and even then it was only on SMT-equipped cars.

You know how every family has the weird uncle?  It recently occurred to me that when my Uncle Paul is gone I'm going to be the weird uncle....

In reply to NickD :

My Miata is currently "between registrations" and so I co-drove an MR-S at our season closer autocross.  It was JDM engine-swapped with a motor from a Celica ST.  It also had an LSD.  Even on crappy Ecsta all-seasons it was a lot of fun, while still seeming comfortable.

The Manic Miata is a blast to drive and dead-nuts reliable, but a bit harsh.  It's also a bit of a bureaucratic problem, though I can solve that by getting use-restricted street rod tags on it.

It would be nice if I had something DW was happy to ride in, too.

Ah, so that had the 180hp 2ZZ. Even the 140hp 1ZZ is pretty peppy. I don't love the seats in my Spyder, but I took my 60+ year old mother up to Ausable Chasm in it (3hr 15min one way) and she said it didn't bother her at all. I need to get down to a BMC autocross with my Spyder next year.

Spelling it is apparently easier than pronouncing it.  I'm still trying to figure out why the voiceover actor for the then-new Fwoaad Taaarus in the 80s also got hired to sell us on pyooah Flaaahrida ahrange juice.  Maybe it was a different actor, maybe it was just a trend.  Whatever the case, it drove me up the wall as as impressionable youth, and it continues to baffle me decades later.

But then I guess that's no stranger than the guy with the lisp who was hired to introduce us to Lexuth, and their Relentleth Purthuit of Perfecthion.

Minor confession: I'm petty like that.

I can't imagine having the presence of mind to keep a car moving and get back too the pits after rolling it. Too bad they couldn't fix whatever broke in the front end and keep going.

I need to replace the brake fluid in one of the Hondas today. I've been putting it off, but I bought a cheap Four Uncles brand vacuum bleeder off of Amazon a few months ago, and it makes the job not horrible.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the local dealership charges $200 for a brake flush. On modern cars that require cycling the ABS, they get it done in under an hour. It's very, very tempting...

Talking to the wife about needing a bigger vehicle for craft fairs. I think I'm gonna try to resurrect one of the old work vans, and it's gonna be a hell of a job that I also probably don't have time for.

Pros:

No cost to buy

300i6/c6 is a super reliable combo

It's a club wagon so it's massive

It's the van we started our business with so I have happy memories.

Cons:

It was used as a work van, and a work van primarily worked on by my father. I love my dad but he fixes stuff either "good enough" in mind and it's usually.....not pretty.

It's immensely dirty inside and it's probably worth it to nuke the carpets from space

The side door latch failed and my dad .....bolted it shut so....yeah

The turn signal assembly was unobtainium when it failed so he bolted an assembly on the side of the column so .....yeah

It's currently leaking fuel from....somewhere I can't see. If I had to guess it's on top of one of the tanks and is dripping everywhere. Maybe from the transfer switch between tanks? It literally drops at a random location.

Random small things like the heater fan needs replaced, the transmission leaks a little and I'll have to look into it.

300 and c6 is a robust combo but it's not exactly a fuel efficient one. But even an OD isn't getting me more than a couple MPG.

It hasnt been driven regularly in 5 years

I'm not a Camaro guy, but I entered the giveaway for David Freiburger's '68 Camaro. I don't know, something about the fact that it's an I-6/auto car that was just owned by some old dude who wasn't even really a car guy but kept driving it for decades because he was cheap really hooked me. Even weirder is that if I did win it, I would leave the 250 inliner and just throw crazy suspension parts under it

I watched The Batman (2022) last night, since it's technically a Halloween movie, and, yep, that is still my favorite live action Batman movie. And it's not even close. The casting, the soundtrack, the fight scenes, the cinematography, the Batmobile, *chef's kiss*.
