Just got a call from another local brewery who is going to be in need of a new Head Brewer, and wants to probably tap me for the position.

I'm still considering the idea of doing the consulting thing, but this is a huge relief and confidence booster. Or, I take it and have a lot more fun being a head brewer at a small, experimental brewery than I was having as a shift brewer at a medium sized production brewery.

I would do this but I'm better suited working for smaller companies anyway. I went from middle management at a big tool importer / retailer to "only full time service tech" at a restoration shop.

I'm much happier.

If I need to have it out with the boss for some reason, I can just yell in the direction of his desk.

Rallycross finally yesterday, lost a rocker panel trim and mud flap, but someone carried them both back to me at the lunch break! Saved me a long walk around a ~1 mile course searching for both.

And today I went with a friend and his two kids to Scene 75 (big entertainment joint with karts, lazer tag, games, etc) and beat his 8 year old girl at go karts.

The simplicity of Swedish OBD I DTC, LED and button on the data port. Switching insurance, need accurate mileage on the 850, the odometer has been broken for 6+ years. Fly lead in port A7 push the button the appropriate number of times, and count the blinks. 201,232 miles, way less than I had guesstimated.

Sold the Prevost and it's now at shop getting an air leak fixed. It is so nice to have it out of the driveway!! Got a call today to start a maintenance contract at a plant in Tennesee on Monday. 6 days a week for the next few months at a very good rate of pay. My racing budget just got a real good boost.

Since I complain enough in the rant thread I'm going to bring the thankfulness thread back from the grave.

Took a minor road trip to a guy's place today to buy some plants and canes for building stuff. This guy has the coolest yard, tons of rare landscaping plants, a freakin' river in his back yard with a bridge, crazy stuff like that. I'm blown away every time I see it.

He kindof has a plant nursery of his own, selling his rare plants (not weed, stop thinking that, nothing illegal, just stuff that's really hard to find or grow this far north) to people he knows or people who search this stuff out. Last time I got 4 plants from him, and he threw in 5 more plants. Thats 9 for the price of 4. 1 of them was simply huge (full length of the van) for $20 and the other was rare and expensive from normal suppliers (not available at normal places, though), but also for sale for $20. so, 9 for the price of 4 for really cheap.

Today, I got 2 more rare plants (again, nothing illegal, not drugs, stop thinking that). By rare I mean not for sale anywhere else nearby or from anyone I can order from via the internet. They are recent introductions, so most commercial places don't have it for sale yet. Yes, this is the stupid hipster 'i had it first' thing applied to garden plants, it's no stupider than applying it to flannel or miller high life. By 'good' divisions, he doesn't mean the big size you get at a plant place. He means good-thing-I-drove-an-econoline sized. 30 bucks. Home depot has common plants that cost more than that.

For the record, I'm not saying "plants" cryptically. These don't have common names and I don't want to look up the scientific names.

More thankfulness: The cruise control that had not been working on my van miraculously started working again. I didn't fix anything, I didn't even try to figure out why it wasn't working, I just hit the buttons because I was bored and BAM it started working. See the rant thread for a problem that this caused.

Thankful for the opportunity to do manual labor. I'm short on cash and don't want to let wheels go- but the homies got some rad enkei gravels that are coming back with me from grabbing the rolla one way or another. I'm halfway there after today, and I have shown someone that quality work with speed and no bullE36 M3 still exists. At this rate those wheels are mine this week.

Drove the Miata sunday in local autocross. I wasn't the fastest or even in the top ten but I did well and had a lot of fun. A savant type drove it and said it needed nothing and is really well set up so that was good for the ego.

And my co-driver who has never before driven an otter finished .021 seconds behind me. Good day

Today and the last couple weeks in general have been insane. Working 50 hours a week minimum, often not breaking even for lunch, and struggling to get everything accomplished. On top of that, my fingers are tingling on my right hand because of some weird nerve thing I messed up, and I wake up every day stiff from everything. I haven't had enough time to unpack from the move earlier this year either, so I'm busy all the time I'm home, too.

Why thankfulness thread? Because it's infinitely better than being unemployed.
