Wow.  DD#2's 2006 Impala has been as reliable as a stone ax.

If she ever wants to replace it I guess I won't recommend a newer Impala.

The irony is, my 2012 is on the same W-Body platform that her 2006 uses. And was used back to 1987. The only major difference is that the '12 has the 300hp 3.6L and 6-speed auto. The only thing that's given me grief that's relayed to the new features is the high pressure fuel pump, all the other issues are of the "tried and proven" W-Body platform.

22 1/2 years and they show you the door? Dude, that sucks.  I got laid off at the end of June after 20 years (at the time it was "we need 6 months to fix some things and we'll bring you back at the first of the year") and it absolutely is a blow to the ego.  It was quite the emotional roller coaster for me, talking through it with family and close friends helped me a lot.  I hope you're able to find something that challenges you quickly, best of luck and please keep us posted.

I got laid off from a similar situation 16 years ago butI had only been there for 5 years and I didn't get any severance pay. Any way about it it was the best thing that happened in my career. Sometimes getting laid off is a blessing. It forces you to get out and see what's out there.

Good luck with your job search.

Dangit. I've been feeling pretty healthy for a few months now, but that ended yesterday. Suddenly my head is about three PSI above atmospheric and packed full of the most terrifying substances. And my bones feel heavy.

Truly, my uppance has come.

Phone scammers are getting good and sophisticated.

I've been getting phone calls from a number claiming to be a debt collection agency. They say all the things you would expect a real company to, down to automated, "This call may be recorded for training purposes."

However, when I started telling them, "Look, I can't tell if you are a legit company or a scam. If you're real, I trust you'll appreciate me not wanting to reveal personal information. You already have my phone number, so if you actually have a file you should be able to look me up by that..." they hung up real quick.

So, I guess that answers that.

It's going to cost me an additional $2700 a year to add a new driver to my existing auto insurance policy.

Wow.

I knew a guy who bought a late-'90s Viper.  Just for kicks he asked his agent how much to insure his 16-year-old son.

About $2700.

Per month.

Some guy in England, Jerry Clarksman or something, did a show on the BBC on the rise and fall of hot hatches.  In the show he drove the very Escrot Cosworth that he'd bought new, but sold on shortly thereafter.

Theft was such a rampant problem at the time that his annual insurance premium was the same as the car's cost, iirc £25k.  In 1993-1994ish.

Dear Amazon,

Shipping label created ≠ Order shipped

Order shipped means the order is actually in a box with a label affixed and in a truck moving from one place to another.

That is infinitely more true when FedEx is the shipping company.

Thank You,

The rest of humanity.

Awesome amazing concert coming up, the outlaw music tour with Billy strings, Willy, Bob Dylan, and I don't care who else but a bunch of groups I actually like. Got approval to buy tickets because it's the weekend before our anniversary.

I figured it would be pricey. $80 a seat isn't terrible. But the Ticketmaster bullE36 M3 fees almost double the price and make it undoable after factoring in the 2 night hotel stay, gas, tolls, and paying for meals.

This seems to be SOP for about half of the vendors that I have ordered from over the last couple years. Honestly, Amazon seems to be better than most.

Well, if you're talking about the crashing all the time, I still get that several times a week/day. Frequency has steadily increased for the last 3 versions IMO. I'm on 2024 sp5.0.

He was saying it used all the resources, and I was offering a counterpoint.

If you were to look at me, you would think I am at work.

You are wrong.  I am seething at the ineptitude of the DMV, while waiting "in line" for Hoop-Tay's title transfer. At 1140 I was #27 in line.  Now I am #20.

Someone queue up the Primus.

Was out walking just before dawn in my suburban (grid streets) neighborhood.  While I am crossing the street in front of my house (4 way stop, on the crosswalk) my neighbor from 3 doors down on the other side of the street backs out of his driveway, comes down the street, hesitates at the intersection (again, 4 way stop) and cuts the corner close while making a left hand turn, nearly flattening me before stopping.   I glare at him as he rolls down his window admonishing me "You should put on some reflectors!"

I won't repeat what I said to him, but use your imagination.   I was wearing an open flannel over a yellow shirt, and our corner has an overhead light like you would find on a main thoroughfare in the city.

This was over a week ago and I'm still steamed.

Oof, which location?

The one that was closest to me, the N Falkenburg location, was awesome. Organized, efficient and friendly.

However, the location by the Trop, was horrible. I had to meet the buyer of my Kia at that one. It was chaos; poorly organized, crowded and the clerk was pissy. We actually had to go back twice because the buyers insurance policy on the car didn't start until the next day. The clerk refused to let him register it "since it didn't have insurance on it". I took off a day of work for that.

I heard rumblings that the system was down when I got there.  At #11 now so I might head back up there.

If your unleashed German Shepherd is standing in the middle of the other lane, the one that you are not blocking, and you hit my truck with a crowbar as I am attempting (at about 3mph) to not run over the stupidest dog I've ever encountered, be glad I hadn't had a slightly worse day.  Silverado in reverse trumps crowbar all day long.

Down under the first of the obviously fast Holdens, the Torana XU1, had a similar problem. I recall an article several years after their release that, statistically, every one made had been stolen 2.something times ...

I looked to buy a three year old one that had in excess of 20 owners in the mid 70's and the papers read like a who's who of NZ Motor racing.

This irritates me to no end.  It's a pandemic in Pittsburgh.  Everyone cuts their left turns.  If I'm pulling up to a stop sign, I pull to white line at the stop sign.  Very often, a driver making their left towards me completely comes into my lane almost taking my nose off.  And they always give me the eat E36 M3 look like I did something wrong.

I learned how to square left turns on day 1 of Driver's Ed.  Basic driving skills are lost on the majority of the population unfortunately.

I have a theory.  Not just that most drivers have no clue, although the theory stems from that.

Many times, I will see a car make a cut left turn when they are trying to beat oncoming traffic.  Apparently by turning sooner, the cross street will be closer.

It is not.
