When you're awaiting shipment on your ignition switch and the only thing that saves your challenge car is the local utility company not skimping on the tencel strength of their lines...

The branch is about 25-30 ft long, it's dead, but I expect from height would've still done significant damage.

I agree.  That was very fortunate.

Is that a cemetery?  I'm guessing it must be, but I don't know if ever I've seen one with such a regular bunch of stones.  Somewhat overgrown....  what's the average age of the markers?

If that was my situation, the car would be cleaved in half.

It is more colorful to say "cleaved in twain" or "cleft in twain" as said Gertrude to Hamlet "Thou hast cleft my heart in twain."

I can't tell if you meant "how long ago did the average person die" or "how old was the average person when they died".  If it's the later, I actually use this as an example of Selection Bias when teaching Engineering Statistics.

Basically, the average age of people in a cemetery will be lower than the average life span of people in the reference population because only dead people are included in the cemetery measurement.

Macabre way to make a point (absolutely), I even got called out on that just last Friday by a Director...Sorry but not sorry:  Provocative > Attention > Learning.

Anyway, I doubt I'm saying anything you don't already know based on the hundreds of smart posts you've previously made, I'm just leveraging what you said to encourage everyone to make sure they're using their critical thinking skills...what do we know, what do we not know, what do we not know that would be useful to know.

I did indeed mean to ask about how long ago the average person died, knowing that the question left some ambiguity.  I think we often opt for economy in our written communications, certainly even more so with text messages.  The result, predictably, is ineffective communication.

But, but, but, that prevents me from going on a rant about selection bias...It would be better (for me) if you were referring to life spam wink

Take care, Brett

You've got some quiet neighbors and that much wood would probably wreck the escort... I'll get my coat.

Please, good sir!  Do not burden me with feelings of regret.  If you feel an urge to "rant about selection bias", you most certainly should indulge that urge.

I recall now that I did in fact, wish to learn the average life span of that particular cemetery's "inhabitants."

But it would also be cool to know the dates of the earliest interments.

Please tell me the beer of your choosing and the exact temperature you prefer it to be served and it will be delivered; you're awesome:

Well this is an awkward post reply to using the beagle meme, as it's actually a pet sematary.

As if that can be any creepier. Some of the headstones are definitely from like the 50s and 60s and earlier. I'll take some pictures this week after work is I'm sure now curiosity will be piqued.

Ah, that so makes sense.  My first house was a 1960 tri-level in a suburban neighborhood of 1/4-acre lots.  Tucked back towards one edge of the neighborhood was a quaint little cemetery similar to the one in your pic.  After biking past it, I asked the kindly old lady that was my next-door neighbor about it.  "Oh, that's the pet cemetery," she said.

Totally explains the relatively modest monuments.

I am mostly amazed that quotes from Shakespeare have made it in this post.  A post that later then highlights to ineffectiveness of text-like conversation.  So highbrow while simultaneously being lowbrow and including dog memes.  Well done to all.
