Most common lost tools

what are yours?

I'm thinking 10 and 15 mm sockets

Tape measures. I dunno why, but they might as well be single use tools for my ability to lose them.

I don't lose 15mms often, but then that's one of the ones I keep in pretty much every glove box.

I cannot ever find a freakin rubber mallet.

(I am a sledge hammer mechanic, the mallet is my brush)

Carpet knife, flashlight, and measuring tape are all on the most wanted list.

I bought set of 3 carpet knives from home depot for 10$ but the cheap ones are junk compared to the 10$ model even though they are both made by husky.

I got 4 small flashlights so that base is covered.

As fare as the tape measure I only have 1, I had 2 others but within 1 week they both broke.

10mm 1/4 drive sockets, I've been through 4 in the last year. My snap-on guy actually gave me one to test the theory that since the thing was nice I wouldn't lose it as quickly. Unfortunately my boss borrowed that one and promptly lost it.

I never really lose much, I can tell you people like to steal crap at my work. I'm pretty damn good about putting my tools back exactly where they have a place in my tool box. I've had three valve core removers (for valve stem valve cores) stolen, two oil filter claws jacked, and a bunch of 14mm sockets disappear (deep, small, 1/4, and 3/8).

Actually now that I think about it, I consistently lose pen flashlights. But I buy the $1.99 ones at wal-mart so I don't really care.

Now...nuts, bolts, and clips at home...they disappear way too much, tools stay in their place.

I lose anything 10mm and 14mm. ANYTHING. Wrenches, sockets, deep well sockets, ratchet wrenches, 1/4 drive, 3/8 drive, 1/2 drive, whatever. They disappear.

I don't loose tools, I break them or throw them into the woods in a fit of anger.

10mm anything. sockets, wrenches, whatever. And in certain cases, the tool it was attached to.

1/2" and 9/16" combination wrenches.

God. Tape measures. I have no idea why, or where they go. All I know is they ain't here anymore. I'd love to be able to measure twice and cut once, but usually the tape measure gets sucked into a parallel dimension (likely one absolutely full of tape measures) before the second measurement.

1/2 and 9/16 sockets. Well, that and 10mm.

Yet, like the dog that travels across the country to return home, I cannot dispose of a slotted screw driver.

10 and 15 are near tops but oddly for me it's 8mm. Lots of stuff are 8s and 5/16s, so combine that with the fact that the sockets are tiny, and i lose them more than most other stuff.

pencil magnet tools get lost often too.

yep 10 mm , 13 mm sockets, tape measures and flashlights disappear into the abyss in my garage consistently. one day im going to find a nest of them in the attic or where ever the tool gremlins are hiding them.

My g/f found a Snap-on 10mm socket in her M3 many years ago... after the paying the bill, she kept it... I felt 50/50 about it... on one hand, felt for the guy who lost an expensive little socket... on the other, he should kept better track of his tools...

I lose 10mm combination wrenches... pisses me off...

13 and 14 mm sockets. Usually I can find the lost one shortly after buying a replacement. However, I repalced my gearwrench 13mm with a craftsman 13mm socket over a year ago, and it hasn't turned back up. Its probably stuck to something in the Quad4 CRX, unless it fell off during Lemons...

ON the other hand, I remember now that I lose 8mm sockets on Ridgelines and Pilots like it's my job. The Air filter box screws love to pop these off my electric drill and throw them somewhere into the engine bay abyss

The sharp pencil. I can always find one with the tip broken off though.

Oh, and I lost a cherry picker for 3 years.

In three years as a motorcycle mechanic, I lost exactly one 1/4 ratchet, extension and 10mm socket, all Snap-On. I know that happened because they were hanging out of my back pocket during a test ride. I'm totally anal about my toolbox.

However, since getting into construction and rehab full time, I absolutely cannot hang onto tape measures, razor knives or my Surefire flashlight. I attribute this to the fact that I don't have a place for everything like I do in my toolbox. Fortunately the flashlight keeps turning back up after a week or so, since that's no cheap piece o' kit.

JG's right: there is a parallel universe full of tape measures. My friend/boss finds, loses or buys probably four a week.

I don't loose tools I'm really anal retentive about them. But I wear out phillips screwdrivers like crazy

10mm anything!!!! The exception is the 1/4 drive deep socket that barely survived the JB weld learning experience. It has a big glob of grey on the side where I chiseled it from the bottom of my toolbox.

I'm good with keeping track of my tools - but ohmygod the tape measures. I swear I should buy them in bulk. They evaporate.
