At a loss of what to do/get for my wife this year. She's great and I want to do something/get something that lets her know she's special. What are you doing? Good ideas?
Her hobbies are sewing/knitting. That's about it.

My wife was hinting she'd like a laptop for those times she needs to log in at the office and doesn't want to tote her office computer home. UPS just dropped it off!
Coupon's for Queso love?
I have taken to buying things through the year when she sees something she likes and giving it to her for Christmas, birthday and mothers day.
Sorry that doesn't help next week... I also try to let her get some rest while I deal with the kids and make sure the kids do something nice for her.
Can you cook? I usually make brunch in the form of Eggs Benedict, with scratch hollandaise sauce. I can talk you through it - it's not actually that hard, but it seems snazzy.
DW also knits. Last weekend we went to the MD Sheep and Wool Festival. Maybe there is something similar coming up in your area?
For an actual present, I'm getting her some watercolor paper and a couple nice brushes.
Mrs Monohue has taken up vegetable gardening over the past few years. Our unofficial tradition, weather permitting, is that I spend Mother's Day making some kind of effort in or for her garden. Typically that means things like building beds, running the tiller, hauling in some compost, stuff like that. This year it may just be keeping the kid out of her hair so she can be an autonomous adult for a few hours.
It is a genuine blessing to be married to a woman who has zero interest in pomp and circumstance.
Take her to the Porch at Sienna for brunch, then take the kids away for the afternoon and give her some alone time?
When I saw Return of the Jedi in the theater a few weeks ago, there was a promo for a 45th anniversary showing of Grease in the theaters. I remember seeing a few movies with my mom as a wee lad and Grease (along with some Burt Reynolds films) was one of her favorites.
It's even showing at the theater she likes to go to with friends, so I bought two tickets.

My annual Mother's Day gift for Mrs. VCH is along the same lines. A weekend of hard labor in her garden. As a bonus, in a few months you also get to enjoy fresh veggies!
And second to what Duke said. Wife loves crab cakes eggs benedict, so I make up a mess of crab cakes the night before and fry 'em up on Mother's Day morning. A bottle of Prosecco to make Bellinis and some fresh biscuits to go with the crabby eggs benny.

i grew up in Takoma Park. After spending the last 30 years in Detroit, there are three foods i try to get every time i go back east: ribs at Adam's in Edgewater, a pizza from Ledo, and a legit Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake. you're a good man.
as far as mother's day, my wife asked that i get the Saab detailed. She's pretty practical. i will call my two sisters who have kids and wish them a peaceful day. and we take the in-laws to a nice brunch on the water (Lake St Clair) somewhere.
