Grew up, so to speak, with The Munsters and started watching The Addams Family as an adult. Yeah, watching the Munsters it's easy to see they were CBS's answer to The Addams Family...but as a kid I actually liked the goofball humor of The Munsters with Grandpa in his lab and the family thinking that the "oddball" Marilyn was the ugly duckling of the family.
Many of my friends over the years thought I was too much like Lurch...tho without the butler(?) uniform, and I guess a case could be made for that designation. The Addams Family was almost too "urbane"/too clever for it's own good, but really didn't have anymore going for it than The Munsters...cars or not.
I'm still trying to figure out what Gomez did to make any/all that money he seemed to have.
I used to have a co-worker that looked like Lurch. He even referred to himself as such. In all honesty, he was a little better looking thatn Lurch.

Morticia needs to let that hair down. Side by side in character, Morticia wins. Lilly has it HANDS DOWN in the pinup pose though.
This just in - Apparently NBC is coming up with a new Munsters show with Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster. It is to be a one hour drama. No, I am not making this up.

Lily would never fit into Tish's dress. Addams Family and Tish FTW.
Grrrrrrrrr as I'm channeling my inner-Lurch.

The fat kid from Stand by Me CANT BE HERMAN. Now Rebecca Romjin-whatever her name is these days as Lily... I can get behind that.
Speaking of spooky tv series from the 60s and 70s, I am currently watching the early episodes of Dark Shadows. Roger Collins drives what looks in the darkness to be a '65 or '66 Shelby GT 350. His evil young son tries to kill him by taking the bleed screw out of the master cylinder.
Now I am no expert on Shelbys, but on my cars the bleed screws are located on the calipers of the disc brakes or the slave cylinders of the drum brakes. Did Carroll Shelby design something different, or is this this a matter of TV writers not knowing how brakes work. There are several scenes where the bleed screw is discovered in the young boy's dresser drawer and is waved around by several characters, and yep, it looks like something that comes out of a slave cylinder, not a master cylinder. They at least got the part right.
In '86, we rode my shovelhead POS to Sturgis. At a typical stop, a grocery store somewhere in SD or eastern Wyoming, bolting some part that fell off back on or strapping it on, whatever, this HUGE guy in CMA colors comes up and says "Hi, I'm Lurch. Need any help?"
Yvonne De Carlo vs Carolyn Jones.... do I have to choose?
uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh. I'd like to get behind Rebecca Romjin
Hadn't heard that NBC was resurrecting The Munsters, but there is/was a syndicated version of the show called The Munsters Today...or something like that. The part of Herman is/was played by John Schuck (if you've ever watched McMillian and wife, he was Rock Hudson's "driver".)
I like the original Addams Family but Raul Julia did a fantastic job of Gomez in the movie.

I'll go along with this. As a kid, it was Munsters all the way, and I never saw the Addams family until much later in life. The movies were really my introduction.

AAAAAAAAAAWWGHHHHTHHHHHHH!
Another vote for Addams..seems like half of all Munsters scripts ever written were "..family scares off Marilyn's suitor..". The Drag-u-la still rocks, though. I wonder if it was running in the gas or alcohol class...
EDIT: If you haven't seen Fred Gwinne's performance in "My Cousin Vinnie", get thee to a video store post-haste.

The first one ranks very highly among my all time favorites.
OK, now that the Addams Family clearly won, I went back to add it to my Netflix cue. Damn Hell, I say. They have the Munsters show but only the Addams Family movies from the 90s. Oh well. I'll probably watch some Munsters anyway.
As for Dark Shadows, I just saw the new movie. I thought it was pretty damn good but lots of people seem to hate it.

Video store? What's that?
But yes, My Cousin Vinnie is a must-see. Especially since Posi-Trac plays a key role in it, and Marisa Tomei is smart AND hot in it.
