I attended the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Hall in Detroit yesterday. My cousin comes up from Indy for the show every year, and we've been going since the mid-80s. We've got it down to a science at this point, we can see everything we want in 2 hours or less. And I took a bunch of pics.
The Econoline replacement, the Transit. This thing is TALL! It was locked, but it looked like I'd be able to stand up in it:
GT500:
Ford Atlas concept, hinting at future F-series trucks:
The spiritual successor to the much-loved P71:
Vettel and Webber's company car:
2014 GMC Sierra:
"Hot Wheels" edition Camaro:
C7 Stingray:
My conclusion on the C7 is that it's a very good-looking car despite the fact that there are areas on it I don't like, for instance, the rear end:
Bare C7 chassis:
Toyobaru. I sat in both, and I love the cockpit, it just feels right. I'd like to drive one:
Maserati and model:
I still think the Cayman is the best-looking car in the Porsche stable:
Geely C30 Polestar edition:
BMW M6 Gran Coupe. So drop-dead sexy, I'm willing to forgive it for being a "6-series" with 4 doors:
This Smart fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down:
F-Type Jag:
My DD when I win the lottery:
Acura NSX. Looks great, but why does everything have to be a damn hybrid these days?
Nissan Deltawing out in the lobby:
130+ pics in this link, including many more of the Vette, the NSX, other trucks, Mercs, Bimmers, you name it.

Ouch, I see what you did there!
I know haters gonna hate, and the delta wing has more than its fair share of haters who went from 'it'll never work' to 'I never said it'll never work, I said it wouldn't work well' when it did work, but I still think this is the best thing to happen to racing in a long time. The only issue I have is it's flat berkeleying black. Once I'm benevolent dictator to the universe there will be a $1,000,000 per month stupidity tax on anyone who paints a car flat anything unless it's older than 70 years. Bah humbug.
Damn, I can't hot link your picassa web!?!?!?!?

That may or may not have been meant for you.

You should be able to, I opened it up to anyone with the link. I can post something else if you want, what is it?

This is almost as ugly as that Smart car posted. Man, what a nasty looking truck. It looks like they stole the GM design, and made it moar ugly

How many years before all the used vans I'm looking at are of this Sprinter/Transit design?
Sprinters seem to still be stupidly expensive for a personal van unless they have elevenion-billinty miles on them. Hoping the Transit replacing the full Econoline range will result in less-premium used offerings...
the place doesn't look too crowded - when it hits Chicago next month the place is a literal freak show on the weekends to the point I won't even go and I have been attending the Chicago Auto Show since the early 1970's with my Dad.
The gray/silver Vette isn't anywhere nearly as interesting as the red one.
I saw all the angles of the Vette @ BJ and I'm a fan of the rear end styling. I'll have to wait to see it in person to see if the size turns me off, but I'm liking this Vette better than the one it replaced.

Yeah, the Detroit show is a madhouse on weekends, too. So we try to go during the week if at all possible.
This may be a year that I do not make it there.
As noted, my favorite time is Tuesday afternoon, in around 11am, out before 4 pm, so as to avoid crowds both in the building and on the road.
Thanks for the pics
Does Detroit have all the Jeep off road ride stuff like Chicago? Want to wait in a long line??? Yes, I waited one year for a 3 minute ride.
Is anyone going after work today? I may run down there for a bit.

Autocross?
Wait, there are courses that are 3 minutes?
Three 58 second runs for an entire day in the sun.

Not that I saw, but Cobo doesn't have the space that McCormick does. I assume the Chicago show is at McCormick Place?
In reply to Tom_Spangler:
Yes
Thanks for posting this. Aside from maybe the Scion and the 'Stang, I feel like saying " this the best the auto makers can do?" I just don't see anything that gets me excited. I know I'm hard to please lol.
The front ends on the Econolines have gotten uglier over the years, but the Sprinterish replacement is just horrendous yuck.
Thanks for the pics. I gotta say, I think the automakers are doing fine. The hot hatch market is great with the Abarth and the Fiesta/Focus ST. There is a brand new corvette. The FRS/BRZ cars exist. Trucks are a bit of a snore and family sedans aren't very exciting, though they're pretty great cars. It's a good time to like cars.
