I'm blessed with good neighbors. I do try to keep the air tool noises to a minimum before 9am and after 9pm, but I've never had a complaint. I didn't even get a complaint when I was testing the gas turbine and it's stupid loud. As for parking, I've got 4 cars 3 trailers and a boat parked in the yard, but they are behind the shop. From the front, my house looks just like every other house in the vinyl jungle.

As for the bad neighbors, I've heard water balloons filled with Round-Up do wonders to the quality of their lawns. Just a quick lob out of the window on the way by late one evening. If you are brave, you can write all kinds of stuff with a sprayer full of Round-Up. Think of it as the ultimate permanent marker because even new grass is going to come in a different color.

I almost did that recently, and REALLY wish I would have, though it would have only netted me one more garage space. Two houses on my street came up for sale dirt cheap, one was bought and is still being remodeled (with hopes of flipping it), the other was bought, remodeled, and rented to some slightly shady people. Their kids and mom are cool, but I don't trust the dad AT ALL.

The officer is a code enforcement officer.

Ask him what code you are breaking that he is enforcing.

It really doesn't matter how many whiney emails he's received.

He's being a spineless prick, just like your neighbor.

Get in compliance, and push back on officials who inappropriately abuse their authority.

The officer was actually really cool. He said the first time he got an email about it, he came by and thought everything looked fine other than the one car with no plates. He said he "got another call" so he had to leave before he tagged anything, and just never found the time to come back. He basically said he didn't think it looked bad at all and wasn't going to worry about it, and said it looked more like a personal vendetta or a feud than an actual legitimate complaint. That is until he got a second email that said in all caps "WHY HASN'T ANYTHING BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS!!". And he told me exactly what I had to do to be in compliance and to keep the mystery shiny happy person at bay.

Now years ago I had my 944 illegally tagged with a 30 day tag (the car was 100% legal) and towed in a week later on the one day I didn't drive it to work because it had snowed. That one I raised 9 kinds of hell over. I called to report it stolen, and when the officers were writing up the report I mentioned that it had been tagged, but the 30 days were not up, it was 100% legal, I had been driving it to work, and that it wasn't even parked in the same spot as it was when it was tagged. They called in and found out it was towed in by the city. I REALLY wanted to press charges, but they wouldn't do it.

See... he's claiming 30 inches of lift, but i'm pretty sure he hasn't figured out why that's not real possible given the information that the wheels are 24s.

Maybe 30in higher than stock from ground to floor pan. However.... That's not even close to how lift is measured... Ever.

Given that those are 24" wheels... that's really only possible if the floor pan was a few inches below the ground from factory.

Even better: sprinkle 'BERKELEY YOU' in a different species of grass seed. Kentucky bluegrass works particularly well.

we have one of those. they complain to all the neighbors but us. the guy across the street won't tell me who it is, just that it is not the guy immediately next door. guy across the street is cool and has a ton of cars/trucks/tractors/trailers/junk in his yard, could give a crap what we have. he won't tell me because he knows i'll go right to the person and knock on their door.

first they complained to the township that we had 2 "junk" vehicles in the driveway and we got a zoning rules letter and a 30 days get rid of them notice. the second time they just complained to everyone around that i had a boat and a cargo trailer parked in my driveway and it makes it look ugly coming from the south. my wife wanted to paint "Fxxx YOU" on the trailer for them to see every day.

I reduced my busybody neighbor to tears after she got mouthy with my wife over some BS. I went full Ray Liotta and screamed at her to the point that my throat hurt. Led off with "DON'T YOU EVER SPEAK TO MY WIFE AGAIN YOU MISERABLE berkeleyING BUSYBODY!!!!" She didn't know what hit her after I was done. Relationship destroyed, no berkeleys given by me. When it's time to paint my house, I'm tempted to paint the wall adjacent to her house neon green or pink just to make her head explode. No HOA, so I can do that.

Awesome .

Do you think that's its biggest problem?

UPDATE: I moved the Fastback into the garage and changed parking spots on the 944, then aired up the tire and turned the Passat that's parked behind the garage around. I haven't put plates on it yet, but I did move it so it's known that it's been driven and I turned it around and back it up to the garage so at least no one can see that it doesn't have plates on it.

And I suspect that the complainer is either the old lady across the street, or one of her sons. She absolutely HATES it when people turn around in her driveway or park to close to her house, so I'm guessing some of that hate spilled over. Or she was bitching to one of her kids about me and they took it upon themselves to get involved.

So the cop that came by and told my fiance about the complaint did a drive by on Wednesday, and didn't tag anything, or even stop for that matter. The bonus was when he left, he turned around in the old lady's driveway. It's the little things in life...

Even a little payback feels good...

My neighbors yell at me when I open the hood to fill up the windshield wiper fluid (I live in in an apt building that was converted to condos, no garages). I can't imagine what they would do if I brought home a $1500 Miata...

You should do it just to see the reaction. With camera's.

haha... I'd like to provide both experiences for them. I have a feeling the Miata is more likely though. :)

I have a friend with a REALLY E36 M3ty looking Miata! I could probably arrange a trade for a few days just to see that happens! I actually thought about trading him my 944 for a week or two just to piss of the complainer.

I'm curious to see how icy it gets this spring/summer when yardwork season begins...

I don't plan on being nice.

The plot thickens.

So the cop came by again today. He said that the complainer is back at it again. He said he got another email from him, and the cop replied and said that he had come by and that we were in compliance with the law and to let it go. The complainer then emailed back and said that the car around back under the tarp was technically illegal because the alley that goes around the house is public, and it's not supposed to be in public view. The cop then told him that it's a gray area of the law, and there's not much they can do. He told my fiance off the record that if the dude fights it he will probably win, but he's not going to enforce it unless he has direct orders from his Lieutenant to do so. The cop even asked him why this one car was bothering him so badly when a few of the neighbors have a bunch of garbage in their back yards. He didn't answer that one. The cop is totally on my side. He said the only reason he's even coming out at all is because the dude is complaining though the mayors website, and they have to follow up on all the complaints through that site. He also said that he didn't have a name and is not allowed to give out the email address, but told Colleen that the email address was "Jeremy and a bunch of numbers".

That's where it gets weird. I don't know anyone named Jeremy on my street, and the only people that would even use the alley are people that live on my side of the street, and none of them are named Jeremy, and they're all cool.
