My PC doesn't seem to want to open .pdf files, either in Mozilla or IE8. Is it a problem with my machine or with me?

Thanks,

Kramer

Did it suddenly stop, or did it never open PDFs? You need a PDF viewer installed (which usually also installs a plugin to allow viewing PDFs in your browser).

Foxit's viewer seems to be lighter-weight and more stable than Adobe's own... http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/

I thought I had adobe downloaded. I can open my prior tax returns, which I've saved in "my documents" as .pdf files.

I recently caught a PC virus, which I fixed by doing a system restore and cleaned using Malware Bytes and McAfee VirusScan. Did I inadvertently change a setting?

The documents try to open in a new tab, which at the bottom left says "done," but nothing opens.

Okay, maybe I fixed it in Firefox by changing my settings in the options tab. Now I open it with "Use Adobe Reader 9.3" instead of "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)."

Sounds like they're being downloaded but your PDF reader installation isn't set up to view stuff in your browser. Have a look at this in Adobe's knowledgebase:

Okay, thanks for the help. I tried to uninstall all things Adobe, then reinstall, but I had another glitch. So I had to go into the regedit and delete some other gobbledlygook, then reinstall Adobe Reader. This is way more involved than I usually get in fixing computer programs. But it works now.
