I couldn't even watch it to end! I'm surprised that the "supply wire" could even carry the current long enough to make that transformer hot enough to require "liquid cooling"! Was Darwin taking a day off?

Usually someone is on fire by the time the video is over.
In Cairo the locals strip some wire at each end, strip the center, turn the center into a coil and put it into a cup of water.
The two stripped ends are then jammed into a wall socket.
One cup o' tea.
So they're taking a wire, running it to a 208-V (or higher) panel without a fuse, running that wire to a transformer in a box, then running another wire from the transformer to a "welder." As long as the part being welded is touching ground, it creates an arc.
What could possibly go wrong?
Why not just pull a telephone pole down and cut one of the wires in half? That little box is just a step-up transformer, right? Making that the absolute crudest form of lightning bol- no, arc welder. Wonderful.
This thread merged with the Chinglish thread could possibly be the best thing ever on GRM.
I agree with one of the posters there, it would be much safer if they used yellow wire instead of green.
the dangerous part was dunking it into water... the main from the house was submerged and so was his hand.
You can weld with 12v.. so I am possibly thinky that is the type of arc welding they were using..
So assuming that is a step down transformer... it seems safe enough aside from how it is hooked to main power (and dunking it in water)
That was just sorta spooky till he put it in the water, it then became terrifying. No wonder life expectancy in the Third World is so short.
ignorant posted a description of a welder he saw in India. It was a transformer with a ground and electrode clamp and a power plug. The transformer was placed into a box containing oil, which kept it cool while the welding was going on. Sparks and slag were flying into the hot oil and sizzling.
Hmm who needs the Everlast or HF welders when you can get one of those puppies...anyone know how much yellow wire runs for these days?
