Too bad to hear Phadelphia has gone down that far. Last I was there--4 years?--they had a great maratime museum with a WWII submarine in the water you can go in, a WWI (last one) Us warship, a preservation/restoration shop where you could talk to the employees/workers. And, of course the other better known museums.

There is an iPhone App that uses the camera so you can watch where you are going while walking and texting. I kid you not.

I missed a texting pedestrian by about 2 feet last night on a dark, rainy, foggy street. The stepped into the lane from behind a parked truck, obviously without looking.

If I'd hit and killed them - besides berkeleying up the front of my car and making me really late for dinner - I'd probably be completely screwed from a legal standpoint.

So yeah - you can text, you can drive, you can walk, but you've got to waive any legal rights to what mishap befalls you as a result of your inattention.

How so? If a person steps in front of a moving vehicle without looking, how could it possibly be the motorist's fault?

Why do smart phones inspire stupid behavior?

I was standing on a subway platform last year when someone who was very deep into her phone walked into me. If I had not been standing where I was she was headed right off the edge of platform and three feet down onto to the tracks.

You can make al the snide remarks you want about people leaving the gene pool. But the truth is, if this person had landed on the tracks, it would have stopped the trains and me, along with a few thousand other communters would have been screwed for getting home at a normal hour. The same thing is true of idiots who walk into traffic and get hit. Traffic stops, the road get closed while the mess is cleaned up and some poor schmuck has legal problems because a distracted pedestrian walked in front of his vehicle.

Actually if an anti-texting law said I could not be sued if person walked in front of my car while staring at his or her phone, that might not be a bad thing.
