Is everyone ok in this area?
There are 300000 houses without power right now. A subdivision about 10 miles north of here is not there any more. 100 injured there.
I was wondering who they pissed off, 'cause I'm sure not going to make the same mistake. This is from the guy who had an EF3 pass within a hundred yards of his house last week.
I'd like to hope everyone's okay, but it looks bad.
The news I'm hearing is pretty bad.
I moved to Montgomery, AL in 1982. The salesman from North Alabama drove me around the Huntsville - Athens area and I kept seeing doors built into embankments beside of the roads. I asked him what they were and he told me about the time a few years earlier when they had something like 20 tornadoes that hit the area. It made a believer out of me.
A couple of years later I was in a motel in Dothan, Al. My wife called early in the morning and told me to get home NOW. We had several tornadoes in the Montgomery area that day. One hit a mile or so west of my house, bounced over it and landed on the bypass a mile to the northeast. It killed several people in cars on the road. That is only the second time I've ever been scared due to weather.
I finally heard from my sister. She's in Birmingham. Their power is out and they have spent most of the day in their basement. Other than that they are all fine. Alabama apparently has a mess on their hands.
I moved to Alabama from Florence SC (far eastern side). In Florence, by the time weather fronts reached us, they were pretty much played out. When I moved to AL, I was amazed at the violent storms we would have with great regularity. And North AL was worse than central.
I know there are several other members of this board in this area. I hope you are guys are ok. I really hope none of you are in the Harvest area.

They are saying this is the worse storms since the '70s it maybe be worse.
Our neighborhood got hit pretty hard but not as bad as some. We have lots of trees on/in houses and other property damage.
As the tornados sirens went off, I put my family in the basement and decided to watch the storm come in. I turned tail pretty fast. It scared the ever loving E36 M3 out of me. And I don't think I scare that easily.
Is north GA close enough to north AL?
Crazy ass night. Around 9:45 the first (apparently fizzled out) tornado supposedly went directly over our house. Kitty egress plan was set in motion, and me and Mrs. poo headed to the basement. They were saying that the radar indicated baseball to softball sized hail, but we never saw anything bigger than a penny. The wind was freaking crazy, but we never heard the tornado sirens.
An hour later, round 2 came through. This time we just stuck it out upstairs, prepared to get down to the basement quickly if we needed to. I guess more storms came through after we went to bed. Staying up late as crap, I was groggy this morning and it never really occured to me to look for damage, but no tree trunks in the living room or anything.
Hope everybody here is okay. Ringgold GA apparently got hit really bad.
In reply to poopshovel:
Wow. Yea, you guys near 75 - 575 area got hit hard. All that happened in Cumming was a gust of wind snapped a tree in half, falling on the powerlines. We were surprised to see how quick the Power Company was to come out and start fixing it. Apparently, some of the power lines were draped over the Jeep, so i came out with beer in hand, asking the cops if i needed to move my heap of junk. They just laughed at me. I gotta say, it took the power company an hour and we had our TV's up and running again!
It's really bad just south of me. They are now reporting hundreds of deaths. We had a bunch of people get shipped in to the hospitals here. It's really scary stuff. A town that I went to literally hundreds of times for sports is obliterated. Luckily my friends and families are ok. I am pissed that natl media evidently is still more concerned about a stupid wedding. But don't know for sure since cable is still out- thank you 3G for this connection.
My sister just moved from Ringgold up to Chattanooga. They've been without power since yesterday, but are feeling pretty lucky to have missed the tornado.

not to make light of a SERIOUSLY crappy situation, but thats a mag quote if I ever saw one.
CNN says at least 283 died across six states from these storms and tornados. This story has pushed aside other national stories. 1200+ injured, too. The high count is due to them hitting in high population areas. One tornado swath was 7 miles long. It's bad, at least the tornados/storms are or are almost over. The expectation is that the varaious state's national guards will be rolling out to help/assist in the rescue and recovery.
