Now cut that out!!!

I SHOULD know how to deal with this, but don't, so perhaps someone can help me?

I have been running my computer with the volume on the speakers at their lowest settings, but now that I am watching movies and TV DVDs, I am "suddenly" aware that there is always music (a radio station?) playing in the background....even when just "surffin' the 'net. How/where do I go to turn this off?

Spyware. I had this problem a couple years ago.

If you don't mind the privacy invasion, post up a screenshot of your task manager.

There is a VERY SMALL chance that it's actual radiowave interference, but i'd be real wierded out if it was.

On a side note, I drove a customers car for an extended lunch test drive and was playing the Satellite radio and I swear that with the volume turned to a light listening mode I could hear DA switching through the channels. It would be one hell of a way to program your Stepford wife or arm your Manchurian Candidate.

I had that happen when I first started using my laptop. I was hearing a local radio station playing on it. I ran antivirus and antispyware software on it two or three times and it still wouldn't go away.

Turns out my lappy has a built in FM radio tuner, and I accidentaly clicked the icon to run the FM radio program. Yeah, I was all "WTF?" too.

The radio station is a Hispanic music station. Touching one of the speakers causes the volume/reception to increase/improve.

I've tried looking for a fm tuner that can be enabled....can't find it. FWIW, this DOES NOT go away when the internet is disconnected.

Do you have any radio towers in the area or a Hispanic neighbor that listens to the radio all the time? It is called Radio Frequency Interference. Google RFI to find out more.

As an Amateur Radio operator I have had my signal come in on the neighbors stereo and had other signals come in on my equipment

Do the speakers have any wireless component?

I've got some wireless speakers that operate on the 900MHz bandwidth. I never got radio but I could tell when my neighbors used their cordless phone. I couldn't hear conversations but I got a lot of static.

Do you have any neighbors that would listen to a hispanic station? Maybe your picking up a signal from a baby monitor?

I used to pickup hispanic radio on an ancient solidstate amp i had. hilarious

Oh thanks a lot!!!. That is going to be in my head all day now.

I do live next door to several Hispanic families, and they have no problem "crankin' up the tunes" any hour of the day or night.

There are NO wireless devices currently (not) attached to the computer. I had a wireless mouse, but got tired replacing the (rechargeable) batteries.

Also a big 'Heads fan.........

I have a funny story about that. In university I took an early undergrad "laboratory physics" course which had two bonus projects. One was to build your own small FM receiver out of raw electronic parts. The other was to build a 9V amplifier and use it to connect the radio to some computer speakers. Well, I did both, and when I went to demonstrate them to the Prof everything seemed to go well - I flipped the switch and a local FM station came in loud and clear over the speaker. The only niggling problem was that I hadn't connected the radio yet. Somehow circuitry in the amp I'd built was acting as a receiver antenna even with no external source to drive it. D'oh.

I did end up getting full marks for both projects, so all was well.

its not any worst then playing with cbs back in the day... i heard about sevral people that one night annoyed the heck out of the local Bk and sat in thier lot and ever the the drive though speaker would talk they would kep up over thier voice... or thier was one guy here in lake county IL that had a burban with the back full of cb gear...with a radio with no power he would key up and it would read 10lbs of power...the same guy would drive past the local fm tower and key over thier carrier wave...

I have also been on the cb and been heard over the phone a coulple of times... sorry, just had to add 2cents worth since we where talking about carrier waves and hearding things where it should no be.

All of a sudden I need a strong drink.
